who are we going to sub in at DE when ware and spencer gets tired or injured?

Right now we need to either draft a young guy or sign a vet that can play strong side and weakside DE. Who are going to give spencer and ware a breather? Victor butler is most likely gone. So who at DE other than ware and spencer are going to help with the passrush. This is a big question.

Last year we struggled getting to the QB. Now we have the same players minus victor butler. We REALLY need to get this problem solved. I would really like to have 3 guys. 2 starters and a passrushing specialist off the bench or something.

Or maybe we draft a guy to groom idk. But we need to do something.

i would have to think that Crawford is your backup at Strongside DE, in fact i would have let him start and wouldnt have franchised Spencer but thats been beat to death

crawford, hatcher, liss can all play de. i think they will play some de and some dt. i suspect we add a dt so we will have plenty of guys to have anice rotation.

Line

Ware - Hatcher - Ratliff - Spencer
Wilber - Lissemore - Crawford - Albright

Throw in Price somewhere in the DT rotation if he makes the team.

wilbur and albright at DE idk. But i guess I'll wait til after preseason to see if they can actually rush the passer and not be glued to the lineman:lmao2:

yeah i kind of like hatcher and crawford playing DE vs the run. But idk about vs the pass. Hatcher might get alil bizzy here and there but i just don't know about crawford. I mean i know he could be good vs the run but idk about rushing the passer.

I know they've said they want to try Wilbur at OLB, but I think he'll get a shot as a passrusher to back up ware. You don't draft a guy as a 34 OLB and only ask him to play coverage.

i think crawford plays DE and Albright plays LB.

Israel Idonije is a name to look for once they sign Romo and/or Spencer.

We should be in the market for another rush end, this defense is all about sacrificing size for speed... And on the DL that means getting upfield and getting to the QB without having to blitz. Crawford and Hatcher are not the type of edge rushers you want in this D, they're interior rushers.

If we stick with the players we've got on the line, then we'll probably see Spencer at RDE some to spell Ware and Crawford at LDE some to spell Spencer. Hatcher could play some end also, so I don't think Dallas is overly concerned.

It would be nice, though, to get another bona fide pass rusher.

Marquis Jackson DE portlant State

Kapron Lewis-Moore DT Notre Dame

These two DL are the guys im hoping Dallas picks up as UDFA. Especially Lewis-Moore. He is going to be a starter in the NFL

If the season started tomorrow, it would be:

Strong-Side DE: Spencer, backup=Crawford
Weak-Side DE: Ware, backup=Spencer

I believe that Spencer's backup would be Crawford.

If Ware was out, Spencer would move to Ware's spot on the Weak-Side with Crawford taking over the Strong-Side.

Between Wilbur and Albright, one would stay at SLB and the other would take some snaps at DE. Wilbur would be Weak-Side only or a Nickel pass-rusher on the Strong-Side while Albright could play either side.

In the beginning of the season, I don't see Wilbur playing both LB and DE. I believe that they will want him to focus on 1-position at this point in his career.

agree with most of this...Crawford is the guy right now (pre-draft)...I see wilber challenging for the 3rd LB starting spot along with bruce lee....

Linebackers in the tampa 2 have significant coverage responsibilities... These DE/OLB hybrids aren't at all suitable to play outside linebacker in a tampa 2.

And OLB needs to cover about 25% of the short-intermediate field in a tampa 2 compared to about 20% in a regular 4-3. In a 3-4 an outside linebacker has about 17% of the coverage responsibility (assuming they're even in coverage).

So you're asking these guys who aren't even true linebackers to account for about 8% more of the field than they are used to... when they really aren't even suitable for that original 17%.

I think that is folly.

They played defensive end in college, they can bulk up and play defensive end, especially in certain passing situations. Otherwise, they are entirely useless to the team just as Spears was useless in his inability to fit the scheme.
