3rd Down Back

What is the rationale of having a 3rd down back in our offense? We are a pass first offense so our starting back is not taking a pounding on 1st and 2nd downs. Unless Choice is far better at blitz pickup or catching out of the backfield, why not have Felix (injury notwithstanding) back there on 3rd down? On many occasions in a 3rd and long scenario, I like my chances with Felix running a draw or out in space on a screen far better than Choice.

May be just to limit Jones snaps. I believe u always have your Playmakers on the field

Murray was outstanding at Blitz pickup and receiving in College. He will eventually be the every down back with Felix in the spot role.

Good question. Felix is without question a stronger blocker than Choice in pass-pro. Maybe they're just trying to split up the snaps to keep everyone involved and keep Felix as fresh as possible. But i agree that Felix is a superior nickel RB to Choice. I'd like to see Murray worked in more but i dont know how they feel about him in pass-pro.

It just frustrates me to see choice come in on a critical 3rd and long to go at the end of a game.
