3rd down issues

Carolina = 9 we did not make we had the following yardage to get on 3rd downs = 26, 12, 10, 11, 7, 3, 11, 23, 7
Carolina = 2 we did make 1st downs had the following yardage to get on 3rd downs = 11, 7

So against Carolina, we had 7 times where we had more than 10 yards to get on 3rd down.

NY Giants = 7 we did not make we had the following yardage to get on 3rd downs = 7, 10, 7, 10, 6, 20, 4 (went for it on 4th and converted)
NY Giants = 3 we did make 1st downs had the following yardage to get on 3rd downs = 2, 4, 2 (TD)

So against NY Giants, we had 3 times where we had more than 10 yards to get on 3rd down.

Average yards to go on 3rd downs not converted for both games was almost 11 yards.
Quality post, thank you.

The Giants are tough to run against. Will be easier against Seattle and we will have better down and distance.

Week 1 : 2-11-18.2%

Week 2 : 3-10-30%

Total : 5-21-23.8%

Second worst percent in the NFL only ahead of Arizona.

I would appreciate if someone who is better at research could find out our average yards to go on 3rd down because I know that plays a big role.

This is our biggest concern on offense I believe. Even in the past when we haven't had much of a passing attack, we had 3rd and shorts often enough to keep the chains moving to wear down an opposing defense and give our defense more of a rest.

The running game needs to perform better. They've had too many runs that gained less than 4 yards.

I am really enjoying the brainless poster era. Thank you for enriching us!

Somebody has to. Imagine if we were left with mindless praising of Dak (or any player) regardless of how awful he performs.

A couple of our 3rd down conversions have been nullified by penalties... so we might actually be better than the stats show

I'm not a stat guy but I'm pretty sure that with Dak Cowboys have been in the top 10 wt 3rd down percentage.

The biggest issue is this offense is not meant to get big chunks. So when it gets behind the chains either by plays for losses or penalties it really does not have the ability to convert 3rd and long.

All hail the offensive guru Scott Linehan! Hang your hat on that 31st ranked 3rd down offense.

Almost all the passing problems are b/c of Dak. [ChaZ Green is gone.]

Youtube is full of game film on Dak and his passing problems.

I think scheme does play a part.

I don't think Patrick Mahomes does what he is doing in our offense.

Some guys just aren't classic drop back passers that read old school offenses well.

Dak can do it but I don't want him doing it consistently.

Spread the thing out, use Tavon, and get defenses on their heels instead of zeroing in on a couple of TE's and Zeke.

third and long is always tough. third down issues are directly related to 1st and 2nd down deficiencies.

God forbid anyone, like myself, mentioning that we need to get more creative and start using other players more effectively - you know, like Austin and Smith. Get creative with them.

Nah, this board and even coaching staff wants it to be the Dak, Zeke, and Beasley show every week.

OL decline. Hard to convert when you can't run for more than 2-3 on first and second down, there's no TE option, OC has no imagination, and WRs are meh. The OL gels and Zeke will be back to ripping off 5-6 per pop and we'll be in 3rd and 1s again with easy convertions a la 2016.

Then the field opens up downfield, Dak starts hitting Austin deep, we control the clock, the D suffocates everyone, we win a SB, and JG gets a 40 year extension.
Or maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...
