3rd down Qb

It is amazing to me how good Romo plays when it is a3rd down (passing situation.) I would be interested to see what his career percentage is on 3rd down. And also how he stacks up with someone like Peyton Manning, I would not be surprised if Romo had the better percentage. I truly believe he is the best 3rd down QB in the league. Thoughts?

Someone correct me if need be, but I think there were only two QB's who converted more than 50% of their 3rd-and-long situations last year--Romo and Manning.

He converted 6 of those 7 - (4-1 for TD - Barber) on the 7th one)

He took a sack on another.

So he had a 66% conversion rate and I don't know what kind of Qb ranking that is but it has to be near 150 I would think.

Romo was 7-10 on 3rd and 4th down for 94 yards and a TD. He converted 6 out of 11 first downs because he also had a scramble for a first down.

He should have been 8-10 for about 100 and 7 conversions but TO dropped that easy pass on the first series. I would not normally mention a drop but that was just too easy of a catch to drop.

So in total for the year he is 14-19 for 237 and 3 TDs and a conversion rate of 60%.

Everytime i watch the games and its 3rd down, im very confident that he will pick up the first. (even if its third and long)

As I read this thread I was reminded of something John Elway told Jay Cutler this off-season..."Every QB in the league can play on 1st and 2nd down, but they pay you to make plays on 3rd downs."

Game 3.

Game 3 was one of the most impressive Performances of Romos Career IMO.

His average yards to complete for 3 and 4th down were 12.3

He converted only three but easily should have been 4 with the Crayton drop of the TD.

He was 6-10 for 107 yards and 1 int and converted 3-10 3rd and fourth down conversions.

So for the year he is 20-29 for 343 yards 3 td's and 1 Int on third down with a 55% conversion rate.

Myself, but it does not keep me from just shaking my head and laughing when I see this guy come through in these situation. I also loved how bad he wanted to go for it on 4th down in the 1st half and the coaches allowed him to go out and get it done. I guess I should also thank Lovie for calling the TO so that Dallas could change their minds instead of punting it on that play

Game 4

Update - Romo converted 6-9 tries on 3rd down yesterday. He was 4-7 for 85 yards with 2 td's ( 1 run and 1 pass) 2 carries for 18 yards

For the year he is 24-36 428 yds and 5 td's with 1 int.

He has converted 22-38 for a 58% conversion rate

It took me a while to get to this as I could not bear torelive Romos performance on Monday night. I have even had to resort to watching the Rams game to get Monday night out of my mind but:


Game 5 Update:

Romo was 9-14 119 yrds and 2 ints on Monday night on 3rd down.

He converted 8 -14 of those tries for a conversion rate of 57.1%

For the year he is 33-50 547 yrds 5 tds and 3 ints on third down.

He has converted 30-52 for 57.1%
