I think it would be foolish not to prepare for a future without Gallup here. Now my hope is we draft someone in the 4th-5th round range who has these skill sets....
1. SPEED
2. QUICKNESS
3. A good punt returner. When I say return specialist I lean more on the punt side with the obvious lack of KRs
4. The ability to become or at least challenge for the 3WR spot in 22.

Two guys who I really like in the 4th round are Jaelon Darden and Marquez Stevenson though not sure if Stevenson returned punts in college, I know he was a very good kick returner though.

Any recommendations on someone who compares to these 2 who could be had later?

Ive been looking at Anthony Schwartz and Tutu Atwell.

Dazz Newsome is a good fit. 48 career punt returns for an 11 yard average and 1 TD.

Overall electric with the ball in his hands averaging 12.6 yards on 28 career touches on offense with 20 TD’s. I think 4th/5th round is about the right spot, but WR rankings are all over the place

Other than a few mistakes he needs to clean up, Pollard was very good. He finished 5th in the league in return yards which is higher than anyone in recent history. He has a few very nice highlights as well, let’s not have selective memory. We need a PR more than a KR for sure.

Where did he finish in return yards per return? Yardage doesnt show how good you were by itself.

Of those with 18 attempts or more (not counting guys who weren’t full time or played a few games), he’s 8th with 23.9. Dudes rock solid, just had a few noticeable mistakes.

Plus I’d rather have a guy with a higher total yardage than a high ypa. Give me 3+ deep returns with one tubby over a guy who consistently gets me to the 31 yardline. Long returns change field position drastically and can swing momentum completely. That’s the stuff that can will you to a victory or two.

Ok. I get the consistency but I just feel hes not a threat to take it all the way. But I see i was wrong about his overall success at it.

Yeah if you watch the highlights he’s always a step or cut away from housing it. I think he has the speed but he hasn’t made that last definitive move well. Always gets caught up behind a blocker or makes one weave too many.

But yeah overall super solid. Really would like a punt returner with 4.3 speed and quicks like Deonte Harris in NO as well.

This guy

I'm starting to think this should be our 2nd CB we draft because he is a good returner. This video doesnt include his senior stats 4 more TDs 2 by KR 2 as a PR.

I’m in no rush to get a 3rd WR this year at all, ..that’s like giving up on Gallup this year.
And all of this trade Gallup - that’s flat crazy considering the luxury we have with the 3 WRs, and you never know when a significant injury to
one changes the limits of the team’s chances when you no longer have such luxury.

- When/if Gallup leaves in FA, then we get a comp pick outta that and you trust your personnel guys to get another Gallup in the draft a couple of years down the road.
but that’s still getting press because media types love fishing and sparking trade rumors.

- As far as returning, particularly punt returner, I’m for looking for one as I’m not thrilled with Lamb being asked to be a punt returner, and while you’d like to be able to get
an established polished vet in that role, I’d only be so interested in the late rounds at best for such a role player.

- Unless the draft dynamics dictate differently and it’s a guy on McClay’s value board that they feel is just too good to pass up in the mid rounds, that would be the only time
I’d be interested in drafting a WR/returner-role player in that sense.

- BTW, I don’t like the idea of Cedrick Wilson as a possible punt returner, Not even a 3rd WR, ..every since that huge day he had vs Seattle (via blown coverages) he disappeared
rest of the year. I would like to add jet speed and return ability in WR unit, but more so as a 4th WR type that we can get late round or undrafted rookie types .
