Round 1-
Sylvester Williams, DT UNC- Starting to look less and less likely that a guard will be the pick here so I have us taking the highest rated d lineman available. Sly is a big powerful guy who is also deceptively quick. Can play both the 1 and 3 tech and will fit nicely in Monte's scheme right away.
Round 2- **Cowboys trade down. I will say the Texans missed out on a 1st round WR so they move up for 1 of the several good WR's that will be available in the mid 2nd. We receive a 4th and 5th to move down 10 spots in the 2nd. Texans have comp picks in both the 3rd and 6th so they may be more willing to package picks to move up than usual.**
Phillips Thomas, FS Fresno State- After already adding Sly the last piece needed in Monte's scheme is the CF'er deep zone safety. Thomas is exactly that with good coverage skills and a nose for the ball.
Round 3-
Brian Schwenke, C/G Cal- Definition of a big ugly, but Schwenke gets the job done very well. Smart player who can anchor well but also excels on the move at the 2nd level. Immediate upgrade at C for us, but could also play guard if Costa is deemed more reliable than what we have at guard.
Round 4-
Stepfan Taylor, RB Stanford- Love the value of Taylor in the 4th. Probably falls this far because of a poor 40 time, but we've all seen time and time again how unimportant that can be. Tough and durable runner that will make a great compliment back while not being a liability if Murray goes down again.
Vinston Painter, OT Va Tech/JC Tretter, G/T Cornell- The reason I have 2 guys listed here is because I believe the front office does have plans of signing a FA o-lineman. Could be Clabo, Winston, or Moore. Whichever position we don't sign I think we draft another developmental guy there. Both of these guys are raw but have potential through the roof. Could be starters in 2014/2015.
Round 5-
Nick Kasa, TE Colorado- Former high school all-american who didn't make the transition to TE until late in his college career. Despite the obvious fact that he is a bit raw at the position Kasa is a very intriguing prospect. At 6'6 270 and good speed (4.7 40) he presents a matchup nightmare while also having the size and strength to be a good blocker.
Devin Taylor, DE South Carolina- Taylor is a tough prospect to judge because he has such a rare blend of size and athleticism, but was never been able to put together a good complete year at SC. Probably a little too stiff to ever be a true pass rush threat, but has the speed and a good motor to get to the QB on broken plays and can chase runners down from behind for TFL as well. Always a threat for batted balls at 6'7 with 34" arms as well.
Round 6-
Conner Vernon, WR Duke- Not the biggest or most gifted athlete, but still managed to finish his career as the all time ACC leader in catches. Just knows how to get open and has extremely reliable hands when the ball comes his way.
