I'd throw a party after that draft.

I am not sold on OG in the 1st unless its a future Zack Martin.

Who knows with 100% accuracy who the next Zack Martin is? To be honest I would sit at 24 and take the next Parsons or Diggs.

I agree but I would not take the OG there are tons of OG and College Tackles that project as guards. I think 24 should be used on defense, you can find serviceable OL throughout the draft.

See our track record the last 15 years or so with OL outside of the first round of the draft.

What Lael Collins and Connor Williams and Tyler Biadasz, iffy on Biadasz, maybe Steele but when the line was good there was more spots for depth because the starters were entrenched. Lets be real the line is a mess due to the GBS Frederick contracting and then retiring.

LC was a top 10 lock if not for the murder issue. Williams was awful and I’m all for upgrading TB this year. CW wasn’t the only reason we couldn’t run the ball and the pocket was soft. Go back and look. We were awful against every team with a good DT.

CW was not all-pro but he was good enough, it is very hard to find all-pro at all 5 spots. Ideally you want guys that play decent on their Rookie contract, if they are all-pro when it comes time you pay them but otherwise you churn that spot every 3-4 years. That is pretty much what NE did for so long, they replaced guys that were not worth a hefty pay raise after their 1st contract.

Is it just that he wasn’t All Pro or is that he was awful? Was he a above, at, or below average starter?

I thought he was average to slightly above average, that is why I had no issue with letting him walk during FA. Roster management is give and take. Same reason why I was happy that Randy went to Denver. Sometimes you just need new guys and be ready to replace when it comes time. Ideally they get an All-pro or tiop tier guard now that way when Zack's time comes you will be transitioning his position. But either way I do not think you waste a 1st on OG unless he is generational like Zack. LOT yes ok 1st rounder is more justified or a stud OC but OG and RT there are just way too many bodies in the draft that can fill those positions, especially this one that is supposed to be pretty deep on the OL.

Remember that time an average to above average guard had 14 penalties and got replaced by a complete bust? If he’s average (which he isn’t) I would expect a lot of OG’s to have 8+ penalties (they don’t).

Would not fuss about it. Hits all my major needs early. I might take a second linebacker with 5b or 5c instead of the CB or OT since we're shallow in LB depth, but I'm OK with it.

Until last year, I felt he was average. The penalty problem made him below average.

Penalties are penalties, holding penalties are probably one that could literally be called on all plays. Some of his were bad but not any worse than the non-calls against other teams OL. There are 64 starting guards in the NFL CW has graded out into the upper 25% though I think he is in the top 1/3rd personally. His technique needs work if he is going to be light in the butt. He is not the worst but he is not the best and until last year penalties were never a big issue.
