4-3 linebackers

I want my cake and I want to eat it too. I feel confident that with a four man line of Ware/Rat/Liss/Williams I can get to the QB and bring the smash mouth football you refer to. Then when I really want to make it nasty, I can send some blitzes as well.

4-3 or 3-4.... whatever we play I am increasingly wanting to sign a Mario Williams over a Brandon Carr more and more every day. I was all for Brandon Carr and still would love to have him. But the more I think of us playing in your face nasty D the more I get excited. I just feel no team in the NFL these days can line up in a nickel against the potent offenses out there. No team is deep enough in the secondary to throw 5 backs out there and expect to stop a QB that will slice you and has 5 more than capable receiving options. Only way it can be done is by instilling fear in them every play to force mistakes. Giants proved that in their run this year. We gotta start rattling people.

SOLB is not a premium position in a 4-3 defense so I don't see us bringing Spencer back if we sign Mario Williams.

My guess is that we fill this hole via draft or mid-tier FA.

I actually suspect that we are going to play a hybrid defense with Mario being a DE in either of the alignments. Ware will switch between OLB/DE. I see us using our second rounder on a OLB to play in this new defense. I still see our best strategy is a trade down to net 4 picks in the first 3 rounds with at least one OG, CB and OLB drafted. Then there is one other pick to use however the draft plays out for us although I hope the pick is used at CB.

I just had a flashback to Al Singleton

Which flashes me back to getting trolled by Nors who was all over The Shanle over Al S.
