Just a little mock for a boring Sunday morning. I tried to draft how I think they would, not necessarily what I would want.

Round 1 (4) - Ezekiel Elliot RB Ohio State

With Ramsey and Wentz off the board the only option is Elliot or trade down. Elliot would bring a dynamic weapon to the backfield and immediately bring life back to the offense we've been missing since Murray left.

Round 2 (34) - Jaylon Smith LB Notre Dame
If you want him you have to get him here in the 2nd. Without the knee injury he's the best player in the draft. Cowboys have a history of taking injured LBs in the 2nd round (Lee/ Carter). His talent is worth the redshirt year with the hopes he returns to old form and flies all over the field to make plays. The defense lacks playmaking ability and he has exactly that WHEN HEALTHY.

Round 3 (67) - Braxton Miller WR Ohio State
Cowboys love those Ohio St. boys this year. Coached him in the Senior Bowl and worked him out on other occasions. Love his play making ability out of the slot and can be a weapon in the return game if coached properly. Would be another weapon for the win-now with Romo crew.

Round 4 (101) - Dak Prescott QB Mississippi St.
Cowboys seem to be intrigued by him despite his DWI issues. 4th round is a perfect spot to land a developmental QB to learn behind Romo. Senior Bowl MVP who has some skills to work with.

Round 4 (135) - Jihad Ward DE Illinois
A guy who could go much higher, the Boys get a steal with a DE they coached at the Senior Bowl. Add much needed depth at the DE position for Marinelli's rotation of rush men.

Round 6 (189) - Blake Martinez LB Stanford
Can play inside or outside and help on special teams. Team leader and team captain which makes him a target for the Boys.

Round 6 (212)- DeRunnya Wilson WR Mississippi St
Favorite target of 4th round pick Dak Prescott. Tall and rangy at 6'5" but ran a horribly slow 40 time. Cowboys have seen ton of tape on Prescott and noticed the ability of Wilson despite the slow 40 time. Worth a flier in the 6th round.

Round 6 (216) - Adam Gotsis DT Georgia Tech
Another injured player who would have went higher. More defensive line depth

Round 6 (217) - Deiondre Hall CB/S Northern Iowa
Tall corner who may have to play safety. Played both positions in college and was a ball-hawk with 13 career interceptions. Another guy we coached at the Senior Bowl.

1 and 2 aren't happening and Miller is gone in the 2nd.

Miller could be gone in the 2nd.

1 is very likely to happen whether we like it or not.

2 is just a chance to hit the lotto. Depends on how the knee checks out. He could go in the 1st round or go undrafted.

Don't think I could put into words how much I would hate this draft.

RB
Injured LB
WR
Crappy QB

No DE? CB? S? Those first 4 rounds would have me out on the ledge...

This draft got a DE in the 4th round. A guy who could go in the 2nd or 3rd round.

You don't want a RB who could be an all-pro and probably lead the league in rushing for several years?

Don't want to add a playmaking WR to an offense that was last in the league in touchdowns?

Injured LB yes. But one who would be a top 5 pick if not injured. I think fans of the Rams were really upset when their team took an injured RB last year in the 1st round. I'm sure they are happy with that now.

I'm with you on the crappy QB. I'm not a big fan of his but they seem to be.

On the fact he is BPA at 4

Which is subjective based on your point of view, and unless I'm mistaken, you won't be in the war room. While I would hope we don't take Elliott, it clearly wouldn't be the worse thing to happen, but his chances are much less than 50%. I don't know how many players Dallas is considering at #4, but unless they have narrowed that list down to two, Elliot and someone else, then it's much less than 50%.

I am reading the Texans are looking hard at draft Miller at 22, so third round is a huge long shot.

If they want to over draft by a round that's on them. But I do see him going in the 50-60- range in the 2nd.

So its a long shot, but not a huge long shot

1 is not out of the realm of possibility .

There is a greater chance Elliott is the pick than it won't.

I like Elliot, I'd put the odds of Dallas burning the 4th overall on RB this year at 20% max.
Maybe if they trade down to 7 and get Elliot and an extra 2nd, it could happen.

Actually it's not just based on my point of view. You may not like the pick and may can justify not taking Elliott. But I am taking him because there are not 28 first rounders better than him.

I'm with you on the crappy QB. I'm not a big fan of his but they seem to be.

I wouldn't take a RB anywhere in the 1st, ever. We signed a bust off of the scrap heap for relative peanuts and he was the 4th leading rusher with no QB and only 13 or so starts. And that makes you think "Gee, lets go pick a RB with the most valuable resource we've had in a long time?" No me, not 1 bit.

Jaylon Smith wouldn't be a top 5 pick. The legend of Jaylon Smith is getting out of hand on this board. He's a nice player, but you're picking him only 20-25 or so slots behind where he would have gone fully healthy not knowing whether he'll ever even be the same or lot. Bad idea in my opinion.

Braxton Miller I have no problem with.

That DE you're picking is nearly 300 lbs and a huge tweener in terms of positioning for our scheme. No to mention that we have no one else at DE, any mock without a DE in the 1st 3 rounds is automatically invalid. We need an immediate contributor and that's not Ward.
