Normally, I try to wait until after the Combine to get a much more complete picture of a player, but I need some therapy after our loss Sunday. These selections are based solely on games & video watched throughout the college football season.
1-28-Ryan Anderson, DE, Alabama: 6-2, 255. Super quick 1st step. Reeked havoc on offenses with 9 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, & 10 QB hurries. Also had 4 forced fumbles, recovering 3 of them. We MUST get to the QB with four rushers. Welcome, Mr. Anderson.
2-60-Quincy Wilson, FS/CB, Florida: 6-1, 215. Wilson is a better secondary player than the pass rushers left, or I would have taken another DE. I'm still not convinced Byron Jones has FS instincts. (See Jordan Reed reception to set up winning FG, other big plays given up.) Wilson is a bigger, more physical player with better instincts. Jones can move back to being a shutdown CB, where we need him & he belongs.
3-92-Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas: 6-5, 260. You know he can block, coming from Ark. He can catch too. Finally, an end to the Gavin Escobar experiment, & a beginning for Witten's replacement.
4-125-Marquez White, CB, Florida State: 6-0,185. With Carr probably gone, & Claiborne always hurt, a new secondary is needed.
I wanted all defensive players, but we have no one waiting in the wings, & Jason Witten has only so many years left. I will create a complete 7 round mock some time in late March, when most of the Pro Days are over.
