The Cowboys up 210+ yards to TEs and RBs against Denver and 233 against the Chargers.

The Cowboys are being eaten alive by opposing teams's RBs and TEs.

I'm struggling to come up with a new personnel comb or different approach other than hoping the LBs finally get comfortable in the 4-3 and improve.

Churck is a tremendous tackler, however, I haven't seen a iota of pass coverage ability out of him. Is Church part of the problem?

Yeah, alarming...and it think some fans (and Jerry) will use Denver as an excuse for this defense, when the truth is we have shown that we were below average even before the Denver game. Hoprfully they figure this thing out.

I knew we had problems on defense when the Giants (of all teams) ate us up. That would be the 0-5 Giants.

I think they would be 'OK' with either Wilcox OR Church playing safety but not both.

Wilcox is a raw as they come and is going to take his fair share of rookie lumps this season and Church, despite being a tremendously punishing tackler, has absolutely no range and is a completely liability in the passing game.

Yep, that is a glaring stat for sure...
As excited as I am about the performance of our offense yesterday, to expect them to keep on putting up that many points is pretty unrealistic.... Somehow they have got to find a way to shore up the middle :(

Simple. The scheme is outdated and teams figured it out 8 years ago.

It didn't seem to work in the college ranks either. I like Kiffen but something has to change.

Im sorry what is there to like about Kiffen? His D has been horrific, yea they get a few turnovers but what good does that do if you cant stop anyone!

Part of it is the scheme, the middle is always wide open and its easy to get first down every freaking time. the skins will eat us up on those short passes and dump offs.

Church has range.

He just misses assignments and has problems reacting from not reading the offense correctly and not knowing what to do. If it were the opposite way around, lack of range but reacting properly and reading the defense properly, he would be a much better coverage safety. It's the same with Carter. Range is there, but he's reacting poorly and missing assignments.

That's really the issue. The passes to the RB's and TE's go uncontested. If they knew their assignments and read the offense correctly and had a lack of range, the passes may be completed, but they wouldn't go uncontested.

I have difficulty blaming Kiffin too much when we have Rod Marinelli, who was the D-Coordinator for a good Bears defense the past few years. For me, the pass defense has been suspect since the Switzer years. That's almost 20 years of suspect at best pass defense. And in recent years it's been a major issue. It was horrible in 2010 and horrible in 2011. At least in 2012 we could blame injuries, but it was still horrible. So it's tough for me to blame Kiffin when the pass defense is still horrible. At least I would rather be horrible by trying a different scheme rather than be horrible by trying the same scheme.

I think to chalk it up strictly on the scheme is a bit optimistic. You are fooling yourself if you don't believe the players have something to do with it.

Of course the players have something to do with it. We had probowlers last year look like trash this year, but for the most part, I think it's scheme and teams are exploiting it big time.

It makes me think the Rams OC should be fired yesterday.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there were no super freak TEs when Tampa was running the Tampa 2 Defense so successfully. Or maybe we just need that beast of a 3 technique Sapp was.
