Salary cap demands a good number of players need to be developed
Bass, Hoffman, Richards, waletzgo, d.line,. Bland, Thomas etc,

But on other hand, the Josh Balls need to recognized early and make room quicker
Even with players like Ball, the team needs to recognize deficiencies and try to adjust for them. Ball was looking pretty good at guard in the preseason before his injury. Kind of like it became clear the Connor Williams was always going to have strength issues at guard, but played with good technique and quickness. Miami did what we should have done and moved him to center, where power isn't as big of a deal.

Not saying that Ball is going to develop into a starter, just that he showed that he can't handle operating in space as a tackle. That needs to be recognized quickly. You can always kick a player like him back out to tackle if he shows development, but stick them where they have a better chance of succeeding first.

System and scheme > individual OL talent. KC doesn't have a bunch of household names on the OL either but Mahomes and Reid know how to make it work.

Shanny learned it from his dad. Broncos in the 90s had undersized nobodies at OL that worked great as a unit and dominated . Alex Gibbs was also the main reason they were able to do what they did.

It will never happen but if we can get Callahan back as the OL coach, our OL will improve immensely.

These kinds of threads are so insanely goofy.
Dudes making up reasons to cry.

Brendel was on 3 teams between Dallas and the 49ers.
And he graded out below not only Connor Williams but also Biadasz this year.
The 49ers want to upgrade the OL in the off-season.

Randy Gregory? ROFL, the guy was unemployed just this year.
He got a job on a vet minimum deal. He is an URFA now.

It does make me wonder if we could successfully convert Bass to center rather than having to find one to replace Biadasz, or if maybe Hoffman is on a trajectory where he could handle it. (Didn't like his play in the preseason, but he did pretty good in the game he started during the regular season.) We do have a tendency to want the team to move on when a player isn't immediately ready to make the jump to the NFL.

Now, I'm not advocating for either of those because I have no idea how it would turn out, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't turn out well.
Hoffman as well. He has Center flex. Bass at center could be a huge find if we try it and it works.

Anyone notice, remember, the 9ers starting Center was an UDFA here in 2016? Made the practice squad for about 3 weeks and was released with an injury settlement!
That's the kind of guy we usually just stash on IR. We love injured guys we can stash.

I wouldn't get too worked up about this. While he had a few starts in 2018, he only became *the* starter in 2022.

It's not like he was a starter in 2016. He was an UDFA rookie we picked up off the street who got injured. As it turns out, another good UDFA pickup. Good pick, but they can't see the future. Are they supposed to keep every UDFA rookie they sign? Don't get worked up and expect them to keep a penny they picked up off the street like it was gold just because years later that penny turned into a few bucks.

Eh, just found it interesting considering one of our top 2 picks is likely to be at the Center position this coming draft!

Like the Rams revamped their entire oline on low draft picks in one season. It's either that our coaches isn't doing a good job coaching or they simply aren't good at evaluating talent.

No.

But I did see Randy Gregory playing in the super bowl. Remember when most said he would be out of the league?
What weak snark, lol.
  • Gregory is on his 4th team in 6 years
  • He’s missed A TON OF GAMES due to suspension: 14 games in 2016 for drug violations; the entire 2017 and 2019 seasons for multiple violations; and other suspensions including two games in 2018 and six in 2020, 1 game in 2022.
  • He’s never had more than 6 sacks in a season
Yeah, I can see why some folks thought this oft-suspended and under whelming player was on his way out the league.

Didn’t the rams lose their QB for a good chunk of the season… their OL was atrocious!

It was. But got better throughout the season. On the other hand, ours was good in the beginning and started to go downhill at the end.

Brendel is also a look guy - Plano East.

In fact there were 6 starters in the Super Bowl from DFW.

Yes, but Feliciano had started and played well in other stops and really was only limited by injury. I think what this really shows is that you need to use free agency well.
And good coaches to coach them up
