there has to be an opening to interview for, we have none so the original comment was moot
That’s a different point. But teams with an opening don’t need to request permission and an interview cannot be blocked. That was my point.

That is incorrect, though. This is from the NFL's own website:

"The NFL has granted clubs permission to conduct virtual interviews this week with candidates who are still in the playoffs, provided the employing club consents."

That’s going to hurt Ryan’s preparation, no doubt. That said they still have extra days to prepare for us.

I hope they are long talk-heavy interviews that require travel, heavy research from Ryans before doing them, and result in 1 hour of sleep as he fits in all his teams.

Some folks seem concerned about Dan Quinn's job interview on Friday, yet it's nothing out of the norm.

This is all incredibly stupid, for coaches to interview before the SB is over.
How can this guy prepare for a div round game and interview with 4 teams!! lol just insane.

Played and excelled with the Texans. That would be a homerun for them!

This reminds me...

To Troy Aikman's comment Monday night, something along the lines of "Cowboys fans, don't expect Dan Quinn to be coming back."

First of all, do we remember how Quinn head coached when in Atlanta? Super Bowl collapse anyone?

Secondly, um, you think the personnel (i.e. Parsons) has a lot to do with Quinn's success?

Finally, not sure why Denver would be interested in Quinn. Their problem is not defense...it's offense.

Russell Wilson was Denvers main issue all year. That with terrible playcalling.

It's amazing how good a coach looks when they have good players.

I don't know if Ryans is a good coach, a great coach, of just another coach, but I do know the 49ers defense was good under Robert Saleh too. Maybe they are both good coaches. or maybe one is and the other isn't Or maybe they both had some quality players on defense that made them look good. But if I was the GM of a team interviewing him, I would be very careful about assigning him credit for the 49ers defense this year. I would definitely get into the weeds with him to make sure I got the right guy.

I believe if you have a HC opening, and you are interviewing for that position, team don't block. I believe they can block for all other lateral moves including BS Asst HC position.

Teams have to request to interview coaches under contract, but it's almost always granted. Blocking a guy from interviewing isn't going to help your relationship with him.
I would block it if I were the GM/owner if my team is still currently in the playoffs fighting for the super bowl.

As soon as the season is over, if they're under contract and another team requests to interview, I wouldn't block it, like you said it doesn't help the relationship.

But it is absolutely 100% fair to block interviews when your season isn't over and you want your guy to be 100% laser focused on the current agenda and the current season.
