Probably just doing it so his team can find out about it. Give them something to fight for and aspire to. I doubt he said it realistically believing it'd happen. Just that it COULD happen. He wants his team to know he has their backs, so to speak. At least until the end of this season.

It's hardly impossible. Remember the year the Titans won like 10 straight? 49ers wouldn't even have to do that in that division.
