If Jason Garrett had Alex Smith and was saying he wasn't interested in Peyton Manning I suspect the defecation would hit the rotary oscillator.

I hate to say it, but put (a healthy) Manning on that team, and they are probably the best team in the NFC. I can understand their reservations though; signing Manning would most likely mean getting rid of Smith. If Manning goes down with injury (very possible) then they are shot.

Harbaugh has too big of an ego to let Manning come in and run his own offense.

I'm starting the think any NFC team has odds against it. Not completely out, but with longer odds.

Peyton is a walking AFC encyclopedia. Plus, I'm sure a Manning family dream would be for the brothers to both make it to a Super Bowl.

Which is another reason to totally rule out Washington. Shanny's ego is unmatched.:D

I think that just Washington being Washington ruled them out

This is probably the real issue.

Of course there are monetary and football reasons why they won't, but I think the straw that breaks the camels back is that Harbaugh has the Niners' undivided attention, and would rather groom a nobody than have someone challenge him for authority (whether it be intentional or not).

Just seems like that's how a guy like Harbaugh would build a team. Nothing really wrong with it if it's working.

Do you know him personally or what?

Didn't Harbaugh precede Manning in Baltimore? Did they overlap? There may be bad blood (or good) between the two of them. The niners are the obvious best choice for Peyton and if that does not happen there is some personal reason. It is so logical I believe it will happen.
