After a championship game appearance.

: The #49ers tried getting Tom Brady out of retirement to be their starter this season and even told Brock Purdy that he would be the backup for the year if they got Brady, per @espn

“Early in the offseason, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan sat down with Purdy and assured him that if he was healthy he would be the starter unless Brady wanted to play one more season for his hometown Niners.”

Could you imagine Jerry ever doing this? His draft pick just took him to the NFCCG but he's still swinging for the fences to get the GOAT regardless of what his current QB thinks about it?

Never happen. That NFCCG appearance would have earned that rookie QB a lifetime of job security and bloated contracts in Dallas. He would be untouchable.

A lot of what Purdy does is on the run, or escaping pressure in the pocket. I don't see how Brady would have made them any better, especially considering he was kinda falling off towards the end of his last year.

Purdy right now is better than 46 year old Brady.

Agreed. Now ask why?

Jerry can market a young QB and have several seasons of competitive play which sells which stabilizes the business. Championships are icing on the cake.

It's a business first for Jones boys.

It's amazing how Shanahan can win big-time with QBs he doesn't trust coz he does such an excellent job hiding their deficiency. Never forget he won a playoff with Jimmy Garoppolol only passing 10-12 times the entire game and just once or twice in the red zone but he's THAT good. He's one of the few NFL head coaches who doesn't have an OC and calls his own plays. ( Head coach, offensive coordinator and play caller).

It's the difference between a serious front office and the Jones Trust.

Our priorities are a little different with Jethro at the Star.

Gosh it seems like the owner is willing to do extra things for a Superbowl.

If Dallas had gone after, or even signed, a 46-year-old plastic Tom Brady there would have been plenty of loud complainers that Brady is done, Jerry is after a name to market, etc.

Is the guy increasing his value this way?
Perhaps, unlike our QB, Purdy doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about his market value or his "brand".
Maybe he just thinks, let's win big, and everything else (money etc) will take care of itself.

End of the day--I love his response. He didn't act offended, he got pissed. He used it to put a chip on his shoulder. He used it as drive to get better.

contrast that with the way things are handled in Dallas. Once you get the job, it's yours no questions asked and you're not accountable for any of the results.
I wonder if that's part of the reason SF is still around this time of year and we're at home talking about "next year" already.
