Now that the 3rd WR (and future lead feature WR?) has been established with the drafting of Sooners
dynamo WR CeeDee Lamb,.. now it gets down to the next steps of evaluating and securing the
4th and 5th WRs down the line,

Are those guys already on the roster ? or will we explore that from the outside as camp goes on ?
who do we have that make the biggest push for those two roles ? Assuming we keep 5, not 6.

- Devin Smith ? former 2nd pick speedster whose had a remarkable turn from two devastating knee injuries. but i do wonder if he is just a straight-liner, or does he have a knack for the game. Made 2 big plays and flat disappear per coaches decision. Lets see what happens per under McCarthy regime.

- Jonvea Johnson - another speedster who faded down the stretch, and he's now known for his penchant for drop passes. he has to be a better finisher. Battle for the ball in contested defenders, tougher in traffic, not wearing down and hang.

- Cedric Wilson: i heard the plus - how he's tall, runs solid routes usual good hands and adds as a punt returner but i don't like the minus.
He's slow, he's merely a possession type in a group filled with more speedy-splash players, he's add nothing to the deep pass game, not explosive and he's injury prone. 2 years straight he hasn't been able to stay healthy- 2 years IR'ed.

- Noah Brown - i thought he was unsigned, as i'm so uninspired between Noah and Wilson, that i don't look forwards to him going into camp.Tired of the project route. Just a blocking, underneath WR who was thought of to be big and tough yet is also injury prone- like Wilson he's been hurt and out 2 years str8.
Like Wilson, does not add anything to the vertical passing game.

i do wonder if undrafted rookie WRs can bring anything that puts them into contest for 4th and 5th WR

I'm quite happy letting all these guys compete in Training Camp. I would probably bet on Devin Smith and Cedric Wilson winning the jobs (with Jon'Vea getting another year on the PS) but anything can happen.

I'd like to see what the 6'4 Kendrick Rogers UDFA can do.

I don't think our 4th WR is on the roster as of today.

Agreed. I have a fantasy that we can trade Trystan Hill to a WR rich team that can send back a fast, quick burner who can run the jet sweeps, play slot on 4 WR sets, and can run the 9 route.

I think Dallas really missed out on Quartney Davis from A&M. Davis was the lone hope for an UDFA WR imo.

I could see a scenario where Big Mike falls into a situation like the Dalton signing where a veteran WR pops up out of nowhere to provide depth.

However, I'm fine with Cedrick Wilson who has the skill of catching deep balls due to his tracking ability, and there's nothing wrong with a guy who just gets open and catches the ball...you have the Top 3 for the extra. Also, Devin Smith wasn't used properly, so maybe MM can unlock something there.

Keep an eye on Ventrell Bryant because his size and STs ability. Jon'Vea just needs to catch the ball.

Wilson
Smith
Johnson
V. Bryant
Brown
Jones

I think 2 guys out this bunch makes the 55. They're young and can improve.

Unless some better veteran is signed or Smith gets hurt in TC, this competition is over. Smith is far and away the best receiver on our bench.

Not like they didnt try for Davis. He bailed on his deal for a few more dollars from Min. Let's see how that works out for him. WR4 is there for the taking on this team.

An interesting thing to keep an eye on are the guys who got extra UDFA money, like the LB Bernard.

Competition during training camp and the preseason games will weed this thing out. Our 4th and 5th WRs don't matter much and it's anyone's guess who they will be at this point. Everyone has their own preference.

I like Devin Smith a lot, and think we wasted an opportunity to develop him. But it *was* wasted, and we have all new coaches who didn't even see him in practice last year. He's now in a contract year. He's not a guy to invest development snaps in.

Despite all the yippees his rookie year training camp, Wilson didn't show anything last year to get even moderately excited about. He's a limited player and probably always will be, although we at least have his rights for the next 3 years. So don't throw him away, but don't keep another player off the team for him.

Ventell Bryant? Special teams guy at best. But at least we have his rights for a few years. Noah Brown is another special teams guy, and he's only got a year left. He's a waste of a roster spot.

Then there's the host of PS squad and camp bodies.

I look at this and see no one of any demonstrated use in the offense but Devin Smith, and most would argue with even that, and I'm confident but not sure.

I assume with Lamb, 3WR is our base. Devin Smith isn't enough to let 3 guys rest, let alone to back them up for injury. I think we should sign some cap casualty veteran who can back up the 3 starting spots and rest them, then take two more developmental players. Plan to carry 6 WRs.

One *could* be Smith, if they extend him before the season starts. As for Brown and Bryant, I'd rather keep an extra DB for special teams than special teams WRs who won't ever be anything more.

If we keep 2 from our PS plus Wilson, we should be looking to upgrade on final cuts from other teams. None of those guys should be considered anything but bottom roster churn.

I like Kendrick Rogers. Kid is 6’4. Could be a red zone threat.

Only problem is you want that guy being a key special teams guy
