The point Chris "Killer" Collinsworth (doesn't he remind you of the baby vulture carton character??!) was making about the "folded" card vs. a single card was totally missing the point on how the ref was using the card to measure. Collinsworth was obsessed with it being about the card's THICKNESS measuring the distance BETWEEN ball and yardstick; however, the ball was slightly TO THE RIGHT of the yardstick as the ref was using the card as a STRAIGHT EDGE between the tip of the ball and the base of the stick. If you notice it in still frame, the card comes back at a slight angle to the left, indicating that the nose of the ball was slightly ahead of the BACK edge of the marker's base (where the first down begins). The card at that angle clearly shows the ball had reached the first down marker. Collinsworth totally missed what the ref was doing and completely biased the audience...schmuck.

That was what I was thinking, but assumed I was wrong. It looked more like a flat-edge marker rather than a gap detector.

Didn’t realize that, thanks!

Pure Genius what the ref did there, it told him immediately what the relationship of the tip of the ball to the poll was. Give that guy a bonus check!

Here's a closeup of the measurement

Not to mention the guy holding the yard stick was leaning it AWAY from the Cowboys side instead of straight up.

I thought it was a terrible spot. Prescott got at least another half a yard.

If they call a first down the other way, Garrett would have had to challenge the spot.
I totally agree, though I didn't mention it in the OP. I was screaming about the spot as soon as it happened...it looked a good foot or two behind where Dak ended up through forward progress.

He's not good at hiding how much he dislikes us... like Aikman lol.

Honestly, Collinsworth just sounds like the world's dumbest guy, and rambles about BS he knows nothing about. I had to mute the TV.
