Still building player information, with about two weeks before Training Camp..(oh, and I'm not going to include slander of Jerry for being the GM now)...some not the norm players that make sense:

5 bubble players who can make the Cowboys roster

Even at the start of camp, the majority of the Dallas Cowboys’ preliminary 53-man roster will be pretty well established. At least two players deep at just about every position are set in place before the Cowboys even arrive in Oxnard, Calif., to conduct their on-field preparations for the 2017 season.

With somewhere around 48 players already penciled onto the roster, here are five guys who could make up that last group, and what their paths through July and August must look like to grab a spot on the roster.

Rod Smith, RB

Smith, the brother of Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith, made the team’s initial 53-man roster in 2016 as a rare backup fullback, after spending his rookie season in 2015 as a reserve running back. Smith’s size and speed combination makes him a very viable special-teams contributor. That, and his ability to play fullback in a pinch, makes him the type of valuable player who can do a lot of things. If Smith can prove to be a viable ball carrier and pass catcher in the preseason, he will solidify his ability to play his primary position, and pave a path to a spot on the regular season roster...

most intrigued by White of this group (I kinda expect Moore to make the team, not a bubble guy to me)

I agree with you guys, I also think they would love if showers made it. To do that he needs to excel at special teams and show promise at safety. Then he could also be your emergency 3rd QB.

Still the least likely of that list.

I'm pretty sure Rod Smith's versatility will be obvious to everyone this year. I've seen him being successful as a pass catcher in the past, so there's probably no reason why he wouldn't be able to continue doing so now. We should all be quite anxious to see him in TC very soon. I think he'll really come in handy, in both the regular offense and within the special teams as well. He'll afford Dak an extra option he didn't have previously.

I think 4 out of the 5 have a pretty good shot.

In fact, I have those 4 penciled into my own 53-man roster already.

I think Rod Smith makes the team as the 3rd running back over Alfred Morris.

I think Damontre Moore makes the team as well, especially given Irving's suspension.

Jamel Showers? I give that a 0% chance of happening. In fact, I think they punched his ticket by not moving him back to quarterback.

John Lutulelei? He'll really have to impress in camp in my opinion. Given other spots, I don't think they keep more than 6 linebackers so he will have to bump someone off the roster to stick.

And I don't think they drafted Marquez White to simply cut him. Given their intention to remake their secondary, I think he makes the team as well. Nolan Carroll should rent, not buy.

This boy has the talent. The question is...can the Cowboy staff turn him around. Johnson...Ole Tom...maybe. There is no guarantee...but he has the ability.

I think that there is another factor at work here with Moore too. I think he's found a good woman and she has helped him to mature as well. A good woman can make you, a bad woman can break you. I think he's got a good one and she's helped him to straighten out and realize the opportunity he was throwing away.
