Chosen for their high correlations to winning, the numbers are the team's final offensive rankings in points per drive, TD %, pass rating, 1st down %, and drive success rate. Number in bold is the average rank of the five.

2006 3/3/5/2/2 3rd
2007 4/4/5/3/5 4th
2008 14/11/8/16/17 13th
2009 13/11/8/6/10 10th
2011 8/13/4/8/10 9th
2012 10/16/10/9/11 11th
2013 4/5/8/4/9 6th

Points per drive includes only offensive scores.

TD % is the percentage of all offensive plays that resulted in a touchdown.

The pass rating refers to Romo only, all the rest are team rankings. Romo's missed season is left out.

1st down % is the percentage of all offensive plays that result in a first down, while drive success rate is the percentage of all series of downs that result in a first down.

Great stuff. Any chance we can get the rankings for the defense in this same time frame?

That'd really put things in perspective, it'd also show just how disappointing 07 was for such a talented team. :(

Looks like the better the OL the higher ranked the team is.

Maybe if we give Romo time to throw the ball.....hmmmm

I was surprised by that DSR (8th), but then I remembered it treats punts the same as turnovers. The stats are arranged in order of their win correlations, so the first ranking will tell you more than the last one.

Man...our defense.

Just guess is the Romo factor kinda in play.
That was the reason I left it out. I got lazy and didn't think it was relevant. It does turn out to be a good example of how drive success rate can mislead, though. Just looking at the ranking, 2010 was better than 2013. What DSR doesn't show is that we ranked 20th in fewest turnovers per drive in 2010, compared to 8th in 2013.

The only thing that separates 2013 from 2006-07 is YPA and DSR, and that's almost all about 3rd down.

Here's 2007:

offense 4/4/5/3/5 4th
defense 14/10/5/20/19 14th

It's interesting how points per drive (that first number) kind of smooths out all the spikes and dips of the other stats and comes pretty close to hitting the average rank (last number) most of the time.
