5 NFL rookies falling short of early expectation

I agree with Mosher on this......perhaps we are expecting too much cuz of Tyler's success and he's trying to fill Tyron Smith's shoes.

More media spin for clicks. Guyton was projected as a project and now that he's been immediately thrown in as a starter against a slew of pro-bowl DEs they're going to say he's underperforming against expectations?! Please.

He doesn't look that different than Tyler Smith as a rookie either.

Who had higher expectations? lol

First round project. That tag flies if he's a lower round selection but you take a guy in the first round and there are expectations, "project" or not.

People who are grading Tyler Guyton like this right now, simply don't know much about the Draft.

Guyton was ALWAYS going to be a very raw prospect that needed a year or two. He wasn't drafted high because he was polished or ready to play right away, he was drafted for the tools and potential he has. Every draft savvy person knew this. Now....whether Dallas has the staff/coaching to fully develop that raw talent, we will find out.

The only fault I have for Dallas, is that they threw him out there right away. IMO they should have at LEAST given him half a season to get ready. Ideally a full season, learning, getting stronger, etc.

He looked terrific in preseason going up against backups and scrubs. This is why you can’t put a lot of stock in preseason. A big difference between the preseason and regular season.

Surround him with a better team. Then he will live up to expectations.:popcorn:

Yeah Mosher is right. He's playing up to expectations right now.

I can't say anyone here thought he was going to come in and be Prime Tyron Smith; maybe not even Tyron Smith his first season at LT.

Yeah, Guyton will be fine. He was always going to need reps to adjust to the NFL and the left side.
I laugh at the title...IRC, the pre-draft scouting report on Guyton was he was not a ready now LT and would have growing pains and would need time to develop. Here we are only 5 games in and he is already being listed as falling short of early expectations.

Honestly, he is right were many thought he would be some good plays and some bad plays...but shows potential to continue to grow.

There were certainly other Tackles in the draft that we could have taken that were more ready to play right away, but they just didn't have as much upside.

I like the gamble to take him....but he IS a gamble. Has a chance to be great, but also has a higher chance of being a bust compared to some safer options.

only 8 college games at tackle and that at Right Tackle.

Only idiots had expectations that he would come right in and do fine

but then we have more than a few idiots here on this board and in Cowboy Nation

I think he will be fine in the end. Of course we cannot KNOW That until he does it.

Don’t you know offensive and defensive lines need to work as one and to think they can do it in the first 10 games is kind of asking much

I really couldn't care less if and/or where they were drafted. I just want the best 5 out there.

we knew a late first round rookie starting at LT was going to struggle before the season. We should have let him start at RT (the position he played in college) to get used to the NFL speed first, but I guess we didn't want to bench Steele who just signed a big contact last season.
