So, Gardner, who I like because of what he showed at Stanford, could've started at LE this year in your opinion. But, Mincey, who's been a starter in this league multiple years, was only a starter by default. And, for him to overachieve, wouldn't he have to surpass his career-high in sacks for a season (8)? Selvie did his thing for 1 year. Mincey has AT LEAST had multiple quality years.

Lets not kid ourselves and act like the DEs were anything above below average for 12 out of 16 weeks in the regular season. 12 of Dallas' 28 sacks came in the final 4 weeks. And lets not lie to ourselves that the majority of them were coverage sacks.

Mincey as much as you gotta love the hustle should not be starting. I said the same thing about Selvie last yr.

Think this team can do some things with their CBs playing man. Alot of us have been praying that Marinelli would switch and when he did we saw the results. He has a group of CBs who can play physical off the LOS and disrupt the timing of the routes being run. Thats what todays NFL is, time routes thrown by average QBs. Todays rules dictate the way the game is played. Think this team was scared to play man because of the penalties. As i suspect most teams are. Cause 100% of the time on a incompletion theres a WR looking for a flag and a good portion of that time its called late.

yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking there. For some reason I thought he was from somewhere else. But still, I thought he showed a lot of promise.

No worries. He played at KU for three years before transferring to Okie lite so that might be it.

2 things here...they had more sacks as the overall defense played better....and how does this compare to other teams with sacks, were other teams coverage sacks too, or did most teams just have far superior players as pass rushers, and sucky DB's....

I am thankful we actually had a guy like patmon, imagine if we had to play B.W.Webb in the closing stages of the season.i am sure he is going to improve a lot next year.

Whenever Webb set foot on the field, the opposing QB would start throwing to the WR he was covering. Webb was just abused every time he got in the field. I was so happy to see him go...

I think Street would be more consistent than Williams since he has better hands.

You look at the last 2 teams playing. They get pressure with their DL. And they play zone. Basically the same zone dallas does. You have to improve that DL with better players. and that does not mean Mincey in yr 2 lol. He can be a good backup but he shouldnt be starting.

So I might be out of bounds here but where is this hype and confidence in Ben Gardner coming from?

I dont think its hype its just fans who have seen him think he will have success. Dallas likes him too so that helps fuel the fire for people who like what he has done in college.

I've been seeing on this site all year long about Gardner being a potential starter. I remember someone calling him a poor man's Jared Allen. Just seems like there's a bit too much hype there. The guy is coming off a injury. I don't even think he's a lock to make this team let alone being a rotational guy. It sure would be nice to hit on someone like that in the 7th round.

He is not a Allen type. I would say hes more of a Brian Robison type. He is not going to be flashy just a guy with motor that dont stop and strong as hell. He will make the team. He can play outside or inside. Theres a place for him on this team.

I'm not saying he won't I'm just saying its no sure thing. You never know how the draft goes. A few linemen fall to them. Or some surprise releases happen in free agency. Just never know. And I don't think he's one of those premiere talents where you just shoe-in as having a role on this team BUT I sure hope he is.
