By my count we have 5 players on the bubble to be cut if/when we sign a better player. For example I think we sign a FB off waivers rather than keep a 4th RB. These are the players I think should rent rather than buying a house if they make the initial cut to 53:

FB for Williams

LB for Cam Lawrence (We need a player better in the Nickel at that spot)

DE for Boatright (I’m not down on Boatright but there will probably be better players on the waiver wire, and edge rushers are our biggest shortfall right now)

OG for Nwaneri (I think Patrick is a PS guy and we can sign someone with upside to save 500K in cap room)

CB for Mitchell (I like Mitchell and want to keep him, but a better player may be available)

I would go without a FB for game 1 and bring one in when the roster sorts itself out.

I might go short at LB for game 1 unless something really good is available on the waiver wire. The ST coach will want to keep CL because he was a core ST guy last season.

DE for Boatright (I’m not down on Boatright but there will probably be better players on the waiver wire, and edge rushers are our biggest shortfall right now)
I think Boatright would easily make it to the PS. They could go short there for game 1 considering that Kyle Wilber is the 4th healthy DE option.

OG for Nwaneri (I think Patrick is a PS guy and we can sign someone with upside to save 500K in cap room)
Yes, Nwaneri has not been overly impressive. He's better than the UDFA rookies, but I might prefer a developmental guy as the 8th OL. If OT Weems is close to being healthy, I might move him to OG for this season. He practiced as an OG some last year.

CB for Mitchell (I like Mitchell and want to keep him, but a better player may be available)
He is PS material to me even if they don't add another DB.

Agree on OL, I think they will try to find a way to keep Weems, DL or some other move.

2 of these 5 players already gone, I think the FB and Nickel LB pickups are the next moves even if they don't happen today.
