5 Quick Thoughts

Seems like we run better behind Free than Smith.

I like what I seen from Swaim. I know it was only a couple of plays but I remember him nailing somebody on a block near the sidelines. It was nice to see it happen to another team besides us and I liked the nice little pass play he was involved in.
But I think my gramma can beat him in a foot race.

Plays like that are brilliant when they work. The execution on that one was terrible, but it was a gutsy call and if it worked we would have really put the Commanders on their heels.
Agree with your point, but too many folks think on sides kick is about surprise and the coach just calls it on a whim. Special teams coaches have guys watching the front line on every kick and the DEs on every punt. You call a fake punt when you see a guy leaving too early to block, and you call the on sides kick when you see the front line pealing back before the kick. No one just says, "let's give this a try."

It was a sure thing and a perfect call. Our guys were crossing the 45 yard line when the Skins players were just planting their feet at the 40 and thinking "oh shi..."
If Bailey just executes and kicks it over 10 yards, we have an uncontested recovery against a tired defense we just rolled down the field against.

It's not a bad call just because your MVP doesn't execute.

2. Zeke has really under performed. I don't want to come off too critical, but I think early in the season, Morris needs to get more run with the first unit. There have been notable struggles for the rookie that he will no doubt improve on, but no need to force him into a role when we have a more than capable backup. Rather than Zeke getting 20 carries, maybe get him 12-15 and let Morris get some more carries. The line at times seem to be more comfortable blocking for him anyway.

3. Dak is the real deal. That rushing touchdown he had, Romo obviously can't make that play. He gives this offense an entirely new dimension, and those play action bootlegs put a ton of pressure on the defense with his ability to take off. He didn't take shots down the field, which will open up more as the year progresses. I am just so impressed with his ability to see the field, be smart with the ball, and for the most part, put the ball where it needs to be.

Well Zeke has certainly disappointed, but I would give him a lil more time. He isn't getting much running room out there either, except occasionally.

To be fair, Romo would have completed one of those fades to Dez. A throw that Dak has yet to make, and if he had completed the fade route, Dak wouldn't have needed to run for that TD. Just tired of the "Romo couldn't do that' mentality around here, cause there is alot Dak still can't do. Zeke wouldn't be facing 8 man fronts all the time with Romo on the field. Comparing Dak to Romo is just plain hard cause they are very different QBs.

Dak is 1-1 and could realistically be 2-1 next week... is he playing well enough to bench Romo? I'd say no, but it's starting to feel like 06
reallistically... he should be 2-0 already. 99 percent of the time both Dez an Beasley come up with the TD's they dropped last week... Either would have won the game.

What a win. Have a lot of places to get better, but that was a great win to build on. Some quick thoughts.

1. The defense deserves a ton of credit for digging down late in the game. However, they are a real weakness, and the real reason we won is because Cousins is a sub par NFL QB. We have no pass rushers, and continue to just rush 4 non threats. QB's worth a damn will pick it apart and put all the pressure on our offense. Gregory and Lawrence are going to have to be game changers to give any amount of trust in this unit over the long haul. Ball control will be vital to any success, and with that, we will have to be incredibly efficient in the red zone and convert opportunities into TDs not FGs.

2. Zeke has really under performed. I don't want to come off too critical, but I think early in the season, Morris needs to get more run with the first unit. 4. I thought the play calling was brilliant. Play action boot to start the game was phenomenal and really helped set the tone of staying ahead of the sticks. Dak converted several 3rd and longs as well, but I thought that we played fairly well on first down, and kept the defense off balance. We forced the issue and made them alter their gameplan by moving Josh Norman to mirror Dez. Good amount of fakes, zone runs, power runs, and route combos. Only thing that I would like to see are some shots deep, but that will come.

5. Dez Bryant needs to use this game as a base of what he's capable of. He was used in the gameplan, and came through with a chain moving performance, all while not finding the end zone. When he can dominate games keeping ahead of the chains, it just becomes icing on the cake when he dominates in the red zone with his elite ability to find the end zone. Granted teams won't be using this gameplan much going forward, but even when they double and bracket, they can't do it every single play. You just cant. When he's not doubled, he's expected to win his battle more often than not. Norman had a good play on the ball breaking up a ball, but besides that Dez played great. I don't like the friendly attitudes though, but I can't hate on that.
EE had 83 yards, 4.0 average and a TD.

The only problem was the fumbles, but RBs usually end up with a similar fumble rate in the NFL as they had in college. EE had the best fumble rate in college for RBs in the last draft.

Fair. I'm just saying Morris has earned some playing time, and our 4th overall pick has had some early season struggles as a rookie.

Some of you still refuse to understand that, Jerry is not making the picks, and Garrett is not calling the plays!!!! What is it going to take to get you to understand that FACT!!!!

Agreed with all your points but play calling. Garrett still struggles with situational awareness and play calling in critical situations in game.

Dude honestly - you know better. I'm not defending him but JG is not calling the plays.

Perfectly said. Sometime's we're just banging out heads on the ceiling.

Criticism is due when it's warranted.

Cousins left a ton of yards and points on the field. This D is trash. A legit QB scores 35 today with the play of this D. We may squeak into the playoffs because the East is a joke, but a real playoff QB will torch this team. Even Romo can't save us from that.

Morris averaged 1.5 today and EE had a 4.0 average.

It's funny because when I was watching Morris I got the impression he was finding yards, then I looked at the numbers and it was 5 carries for 7 yards.

the play calling was solid nothing special. they still need to work it. at least the play calling wasnt terrible like last week. id love to see better play calling from what i saw today but its a step in the right direction.
