I know guys we are all up in arms about how the Cowboys have played and I am just as disappointed as Jerry Jones. So now that we know who we will probably be playing let's take a closer look at our would be playoff oppenent.
The Seattle Seahawks are 8-7 going into the final week against the Tampa Bucs, who I think will probably win that game with the emergence of Tim Rattey but I know my opinion is as valuable as ESPN's John Clayton so i will reserve my comments to the facts of Seattle.
Seattle's is 8-7 but seven of those wins have come against losing teams.
@ Detroit (score 9-6) current record 2-13 NFC Champs cant score
Arizona ( 21-10) 5-10 Warner was qb
Giants (42-30) 7-8 Alexander gets hurt
@Rams (30-28) 7-8 Rams should have won
Raiders (16-0) 2-13 Too many mistakes by Oakland's offense.
Rams (24-22) 7-8 Rams should have won
Packers (34-24) 7-8 Bad weather game...too many Favre ints
@Denver (23-20) 9-6 Cutler first start...too many rookie mistakes
I should also note that four out of their seven losses have also come against losing teams.
They have also lost their last three games in a row since that Denver game and have lost their last two home games (for all those who think they are hard to beat at home).
Shaun Alexander has battled injuries this season and has only played in nine games this season with two 100 hundred yards games ( 201 against a Packers teams in a cold,rainy game and 140 this last game against the Chargers. He has been slow and does not have that burst that made him MVP last season. This team has missed Hutchinson dearly and they are now ranked 13th in the NFL in rushing yards with 119 per game (that 201 and 140 by Alexander boosted their stats because they have not been able to run the ball consistently all season). Seattle also only has 7 rushing tds for the season. SEVEN the whole seaons!
Hassleback has not fared any better in the numbers. Between Hassleback and Wallace, Seattle is ranked 20th in passing yards at 189.5 and have 25 tds and 22 ints. They have also given up 48 sacks, which ranks them tied for fifth in the league with Pittsburg. These are very Bledsoe like numbers for team that went to the SB last season. Their offense also scores only 20.8 points a game, which ranks them 14th in the league.
Seattle's total offense is ranked 19th averaging 308 ypg.
Their defense is not much better (although ours could certainly use some improvement). They are giving up 127 yards rushing and 205 yard passing, ranked 21 and 15 respectively)
I know, I know! We almost lost to an ATL team that was ranked 32 in passing and they also had a bad defense and yadayadayad but here's the thing,
Seattle is not a bad team but they are not a very good team either. The Cowboys and the Seahawks both are not playing good football and we caught an Eagle team that was playing good football. As we all know, this game is about momentum and emotion and the Cowboys and Seahwaks are two teams that lack these tools for success.
Seattle has lost 3 of their last five games (and the only team they have beaten with a winning record was against that Denver team with a rookie QB making his first start on national tv.) Let's just say he has since recovered from that disaster.
You may be upset about my logic but I still see a Cowboys team that can make some noise in the playoffs. And it starts against a very beatable Seattle team.
