1. The 4th and 1 pitchout to Marion Barber, who runs about as fast as one of the Molina brothers these days. (OC)

2. Penalty called on NO , we back them up for a 3 and 11 when it could have been 4th and 1 (HC)

3. Not kicking the 53yd FG and instead punting, we got the pick and ball back anyway, however this was dicey decision. I said kick it . (HC)

4. The play calling on the last drive; flat out terrible. He has to get the ball to Witten there, or run the draw or screen , not those forced outs to Dez.(OC)

5. Not having his team fired up and ready to explode QTR 1 vs the SB champs, We came out like Wade gave the honorary Pre - Game speech.

I also didn't like Dez Bryant's antics on the sideline. Nor Gurode's absurd snaps.

And I did not like how it looked as if Tony Romo was trying to "explain" something to JG and JG honestly looked unsure of himself.

I'm not sure he's a good enough HC to be the OC as well.

The Superbowl champs were lucky to win today. We played a good game but there is room for improvement. We need to improve on our playcalling and on defense.

Right now the best that Garrett can do is give up on playcalling and concentrate on being a headcoach.

There were some calls today that made me shake my head. The 2 minute drill was flat out awful. And playing Barber throughout the game did not help us at all.

Its time for Choice to go in there and take Barber's spot. Time for Garrett also to hand off the playcalling to one of the staff, mainly Ray Sherman.

All decisions made in the course of a game that were tough calls. Monday morning quarterbacking at it's finest. Nobody's called a perfect game and Garrett will make some more bad calls before it's over.

But at the end of the day the team is playing better and we can only hope for the time when the play calling is the absolute reason we win or lose. I don't think today was one of those days.

Disagree with 2,3,4 and 5

4th and 1 around our 40 which NO may go for it and it's a short 1. 3 and 11 chances favor your team. The D failed. The acceptance of penalty is fine.

We have a VERY inconsistent kicker. Field position was a good decision. I have no problem with that.

Bad execution by QB and WR. Play call as ok in the last drive.

Fired up. Bad plays in the 1st Q. Bad D. This is his third week as HC. Takes a little longer to change culture.

Not going for it from the Saints 34 yard line was a terrible decision, especially considering how bad the defense is. My god, if you dont trust your FG kicker fine, then go for it. The 16 yards of field position isnt worth punting for.

I also felt like he choked on the last series of the game, playing for FG there when you are at the 40 is awful and like you said would rather see a draw then another failed WR screen.

I don't get some of you people. Right now Garrett is probably putting in 36 hours a day trying to run the team combined with calling the offensive plays, contributing to the direction of Pasq's defensive play calling, directing the entire coaching staff (none of whom he he selected) except for his brother at TE), running the whole team, guidling Pasq in his defensive strategy & making all the sideline decisions. Heck an experienced HC has extreme difficulty doing all of that & most of them didn't become HC because of previous coach got hired when the team went 1-7.

Really impressed with the Cowboys play today. Must admit upset with the whole first half--too many mistakes being made. But playing the SB chaps after only 3 days of prepwas amazing. Obviously a lot was done during halftime cause this team came out of the gates kicking butt. The great TD run by Austin got us back in the ball game & we very briefly eventually took the lad. This action should that no matter how far down we were that this team would fight and fight they did.

Have no doubt Garrett will have them ready to go & win in our next game.

If he gets the job, he really needs to bring in a real OC so he can just focus on being the HC. Yeah the playcalls on the final 1st-3rd down of the game were pretty bad. A running play would have caught the Saints off guard, especially with the DBs so concerned with covering downfield. The checkdowns to start the series were nice but once they crossed the 50, they should have been more aggressive. Hated the predictable screen to Dez and the backshoulder fade that requires perfect timing from the QB and WR. Neither of them were on the same page all day so to attempt that play in that situation was just too risky.

We need more crossing routes, something to put the pressure on the Saints LBs from sideline to sideline. Seems like it's all vertical routes and then Witten or the RB underneath for the checkdown. The Saints were willing to give that up all day. You saw how the Saints offense ran a bunch of plays to get guys open, like how they set "picks" to get Colston open on that 3rd and 3.

I mentioned in another thread that the Saints threw passes to wide receivers more than 10 yards downfield four times on their last drive (out of only five plays). We did it only twice ALL GAME, and neither of them was complete.

It's awfully difficult to win games -- especially against a team like the Saints -- when about the only thing you even attempt are checkdowns.

We should have got our receivers involved early. Even though we may not convert on a long pass to our recievers, it opens up other things such as the delayed draw or Witten in the middle.

I prefer that our team try and make the defense change their scheme to match our receivers. Instead, we went conservative quite a bit and gave the ball to Barber for minimal gain. I have no clue why we keep giving him the ball. It just ruins the flow of the offense.

The bold in the above is the only thing in this post I agree with. The pitchout, the penalty, the punt: all were the right call. At some point, we're going to learn on this board the difference between play calling and execution. There wasn't anything in particular wrong with the play calling on the last drive. Firing up the team isn't going to stop Gurode's mental error. No idea what you're talking about when you say Garrett's looked unsure of himself at any point. And the continued criticism of him as an OC isn't any more convincing now than it ever has been.

My main beef is that Garrett got scared and didnt play for the win. He even said in his PC that they were just trying to get a couple of more yards for a FG try.

Why the hell didnt we take a shot deep??? Why didnt we work the middle of the field with 2 timeouts left??? Garrett got conservative once we crossed the 50 yard line, it is like he was scared of an interception or a fumble and we would never had a chance to tie the game up.

Thats my beef with Garrett, he played scared instead of playing to win. Besides, if our FG kicker is so bad that we will not even attempt a 53 yard FG, then why the hell are we playing for the FG at the end of the game that is going to be 53+ ???

Just bizzare that whole last series.

It's two different situations.

He figured the earlier kick is going to give them field position, so it's better to try to pin them and play defense.

On the later kick, it's the difference between converting a 4th and 10 and still having to kick a longish FG versus just kicking the FG. The resultant field position after a miss isn't important in that situation.

It's not really whether he thinks Buehler's going to make it. He probably figured Buehler would miss both by the statistics.

The one thing that disappoints me about Garrett is that he is so much a by-the-numbers coach. I think it allows the defense to dictate play too much.

I didn't like the call with Barber, you nhave one yard go north and south. However, give Garrett a brake, i thin k he called a fairly good game. Roy fumbled. PERIOD! We win! Ok Garrett calls of going for it or punting instead of kicking fieldfoals can always be scrutinized by fans. He put us in position to win, more then i can say about Wade so give him a break. The game not going to be perfect. I wouldn't have a problem with anothere OC, but i don't think he can't do both.

If Roy doesn't fumble we're on the what? 10 yard line? Chances are we settle for a field goal. Down 6 with about 2 minutes to go. It took Brees 1 minute to go 89 yards. The game wasn't over even if Roy hadn't fumbled. I don't know why people don't see that or escape the fact that they went 89 yards in a minute after the fumble.

Yeah me and my buddy debated this one, I think you decline the penalty. It was at our 47 yard line and the were up 17-3, at that point Peyton would have too much to lose if they go for it and fail so I don't think he would have went for it. If you fail on 4th and 1 the Cowboys, with good field position, score a td then you go into halftime only up 17-10, but if you punt they have to go the lenght of the field to score so I think he would have punted.

Actually, I thought he was referring to the penalty when we were up 4 points. I would still have declined because the playcalling would be different for 4th and 1 (we are better at stopping the run), than 3rd and 11 (we've seen NOLA convert 19+ yards on 3rd down and we suck at 3rd and long).

what are you talking about if we settled for a FG we'd be up 7 points.

The thing is, we really would have probably won. NOLA had like 1-2 TO left, and we'd probably just run the ball running out over a minute, under the 2 minute warning (since they'd want to save some TO's to ensure they get the ball back with time). The playcalling would have been different if DB was calling a 2 minute drill. Plus, at most they would have tied it.

The entire game was nothing but dink and dunk football. I was so hot and kept screaming to throw the ball down the field all game.
