That is not how the term is used.

It may have started as the specific number on a team's salary cap each year devoted to players no longer on the roster, but it has evolved to cover all potential dead charges at any time on a player's contract.

Tony Romo was considered to have the most Dead Money of any player when he did his restructure in April.

They are telling you how much the dead money would be if the player is cut.

They fact that you don't understand it, does not change that fact the nobody has redefined the term dead-money.

I understand it. You just want to pick a fight.

Yeah, false information about a widely used term.

Bet you were the hall monitor in school.

It is not widely used in the way that you tried to use it.

If you don't want me to point out when you are wrong, then don't post statements that are wrong.

It's not that simple. The process of pushing money forward can be very beneficial. The downside of doing it is that it increases the risk of dead-money; however, the benefits can far outweigh the risks if managed correctly.

Even without pushing money forward, there will be guaranteed money and some risk of dead money anyway. Players expect signing bonuses when they agree to new contracts.

Well everything involves some measure of risk. Yes pushing money forward can be beneficial, but you still want to minimize your exposure. IE, not paying big bucks after one year/a contract year, and not paying age.

paying older players is usually the big risk and th e one most likely to bite you. That is what Jerruh did for way too long and hopefully stephen and company has him on a tight leash. Just hope the leash is strong enough.

baring any more huge lawsuit payouts or extraordinary pension/medical payouts the cap should rise steadily 7-10 milllion a year for the next few years. We no longer have to worry about Romo - so now its Dez and possibly Hardy. If we can lock up Dez THIS year we can offer Hardy a big number next year. And realistically there is not any more likely big contracts to worry about. The guys on the O line are not going to be that expensive; Ro won't be; and not likely we are going to have to spend huge money on the secondary. So AT THIS TIME I see no lurking black holes.

I love that outlook

Getting Dez, Hardy and Ro signed to multiple years would be awesome

I would like to see at least one whole season where you feel comfortable to DEPEND on Ro before you offer the long term.
Hardy? I believe Hardy has been and is a great team mate. He is a plus for the team, but certain provisions should be inserted to protect the team for off the field stuff. Simple things, not escorts and surveillance, but protection monetarily for the team.
Dez? I get what the team's doing, but I'd really like to see a long term contract with this young man.
He deserves it.

I do try to avoid owing 1m to the Russian Mob

Putin don't play... Neither do his boys. I lived near Little Russia in L.A. for years and those folks... They scare me more than anyone else and I know members of MS13 personally.
I need to reevaluate my acquaintances...
