5 Upcoming Free Agents I Covet

Add Tony Fiammetta to that list as well, need to lock him up for a couple seasons.. Does anyone have the information on how much money will be off the books to be able to spend this offseason?

I'll gladly take Cortland Finnegan, I think he & Mike Jenkins would be a pretty good tandem out there, both guys who aren't afraid to play press and up in your face.. With all the Mike Jenkins injuries this year, when he was out there the dude was a baller, lets all be honest.. Newman-Ball-Scandrick-Walker-Elam- They felt Sensabaugh was mediocre enough to give him a payday. Scandrick has good coverage most of the time, but is just too small & has no ball skills whatsoever

[strike]Agree on Nicks. Disagree big time on Finnegan.

I just don't think he's that good. I think he masks/masked a lot of his shortcomings by playing like a jerk on the field. For a team that's lamented by the fans for getting dumb penalties and signing knuckleheads, I just don't see that happening and I'm also curious as to why so many fans are high on him.[/strike]

Finnegan's wife is cute, though.

After last night's display, sign this guy tomorrow.

would love to sign Nicks, but I don't know if Jerry is going to be willing to throw a ton of money at him. Same thing with Calais Campbell who I really liked coming out of " tha U. "

I have a less expensive list of players that I would like to see signed. I don't know how realistic it is since I haven't heard much news regarding these guys and their current teams when it comes to negotiations, but here it goes anyways. No particular order:

DE, Kendall Langford. 6'6, 300 lbs, 25 years old.

As of right now, I'm not sure he'll hit the FA market, but the team supposedly opened extencion talks with him in August and it's now January and nothing has changed. He wouldn't command top dollars, nor would I'd give them to him, but IF he's willing to take a contract similar to what Doug Free got this past summer, I'd sign him.

DE, Phillip Merling, 6'5, 300 lbs, 26 years old.

He'll be a significantly cheaper signing than Langford because he hasn't proven much yet. I think he's one of these players who would be looking for a place where he can start and might be willing to sign a 1 or 2 year deal on the low just to show what he has. He's a guy I'd be very interested in, even if he just ends up being a depth player for an initial low contract.

DE, Adam Carriker, 6'6, 315 lbs, 27 years old

This is another one of " I don't know " how interested the Deadskins are in bringing him back. If he hits the market, I'd be all over him for the right price.

* If the Cowboys don't go after Campbell, 2 out of the trio above would be a good haul.

G Deuce Lutui, 6'4, 340 lbs, 28 years old

Lutui is a very intriguing player for the right price if he becomes available. He's battled some weight issues in the past, but he's a very solid player just starting the prime of his career.

G/T Vernon Carey, 6'5, 340 lbs, 30 years old

Here's a reasonable target who the Cowboys, I think, will absolutely be interested in. Carey can play 4 out of the 5 positions on the line, which is something the Cowboys love. He's coming off some injuries, which means he won't cost a ton of money to sign, and he's not returning to the Dullphins ( alot of bad blood with Jeff Ireland ). If he checks out physically, he'd be an instant starter and better player than Kosier. Keep this name in mind because I think he's a legit target for Dallas.

G Jeremy Zuttah, 6'5, 310 lbs, 25 years old

Here's another intriguing prospect. He's coming off a knee injury, but it wasn't catastrophic. He's only 25 years old, so he falls into the " young and cheap " category. He's the type of player the Cowboys should to go after even if it's just for depth purposes.

Will post the DBs/LBs later.

NO isn't going to let Carl Nicks get away. They could probably cut some dead contracts just to free up enough money to resign him

Definately would love to get Nicks. Would absolutely love it.

I would be pretty thrilled if we could get Campbell as well and even though it's a pipe dream I love the idea of Mario on the otherside of Ware.

That one for sure will never happen.

We should be seeing Tyron Smith lined up at LT making things easier for Doug Free next season & yep, I would love Nicks-Finnegan-Terrell Thomas as well depending on his recovery that is,& it's time to put Barry Church in the lineup & see what he can do on a regular basis at safety instead of signing another guy like Griffin..

I am pretty sure we should chill with the Carl Nicks talk b/c if they don't get him signed, he will most likely be tagged.. It would be awesome if that wasn't the case, but NO isn't letting him get away

Brees should be getting a Manning like contract, will he take less money or force the Saints to put the tag on him.. That is the only way we have a shot at Nicks

No commitment to any defensive front 7 player who can't create pressure on the quarterback, I don't care how fat he is. The Cowboys problem is they've acquired too many defensive front 7 stiffs over the last 3 years while every other team in the division is stocking up on pressure players. The differences between Philly and NYG's defensive fronts and ours the last two weeks have been startling. They're rotating in pass rushers in waves, and we're rotating Marcus Spears and Kenyon Coleman. Our competition has been stocking up on JPP, Brandon Graham, Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins while we've been stocking up on Marcus Spears, Kenyon Coleman and Igor Olashansky.

We're in a league where 5 QBs were at or around 5,000 yard mark, including 3 in the NFC. If we're going to beat New Orleans, Giants or Green Bay we're going to need more guys who make quarterbacks uncomfortable, not guys who are good at just standing there being fat and occupying gaps. We need to modernize our front 7 defensive personnel to catch up with the modern era and quit being 5 years behind the times.

yup, we gotta get big strong athletes on that d-line.. Hope the scouting department does 1 hell of a job and finds a steal or 2 in next years draft to improve that area of the team b/c that is definitely not where we are going in round 1 unless that player is too good to pass on, that is.

Lots of good points raised here.

I don't know how we ended up in this position where Ware is almost literally the only player capable of rushing the passer, but it's a damn disgrace.

Bad scouting and drafting.

Spencer
Williams, Brandon
Butler
Hatcher
Spears

None can rush the passer.

We need defensive players in a bad way.

greatest single need on D is someone that will make ANY OFFENSE pay for double teaming ware

Because he's not a choir boy, I dont believe he's a "dirty" player either. Just plays with a chip on his shoulder
