50 pass attempts

This is the most troubling stat for me from the entire game. We're not gonna succeed throwing the ball 50 times a game. This isn't college, the spread offense doesn't work in the NFL.

I think we abandoned the run game way too early. I think Garrett did that because when the Bears shut down our running game we just gashed them with the passing game all night long. The only difference is the Bills knew where our true strength lies - our passing game. Buffalo did what teams have been trying to do all season - contain Witten over the middle, shut down inside routes or anything underneath, and thus force Romo out of the pocket to throw the ball vertically outside of the hash marks.

Once we went pass-heavy it was way too easy for the Bills' D to simply key on everything. Their LBs and defensive backs were sitting back there just licking their chops. I'm not totally absolving Romo of anything because he forced a lot of bad passes and made poor decisions, but Garrett has to put the offense in a position to score. We're gonna have to establish a healthy balance of pass and run because if opponents don't respect our running game we're gonna see a lot more games like tonight.

Once again, 50 pass attempts.

I don't think you thought this through before you posted. The Bills had four interceptions before we "went pass-heavy" -- including two on our first two passes (both after two straight runs). But we passed on our final 14 plays and got a touchdown and field goal out of it.

Oh, and I hope every team "contains" Witten like that -- nine catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.

If he could get that containment for the rest of his career, he'd go to canton. Hell, any player would.

I could be wrong, but from my view from the couch, it looked like they were playing normal Cover-2. It just seemed like they were stopping our running game with 7.

Lets not read too much into what happened tonight. I didn't see anything exotic. It just looked like Romo had a bad night.

They contained Witten, they didn't allow him to gash them all night like other teams have. His TD was a great athletic play on his part, after that his yards came in chunks although he did convert a lot of key 3rd downs. I say they "contained" because I truly believe Witten is the best tight end in the NFC, and I daresay possibly the best TE in the NFL. People always talk about Dallas Clark and Antonio Gates making big plays, but Witten often gets overlooked. I think he is hands down our offensive MVP so far this season because of his willingness to go over the middle for crucial, drive-sustaining catches and he has some of the best hands on the team.

I guess I just don't get why you think he didn't gash them all night. He had nine catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. He had five catches for 46 yards in the second half, including three catches on our final TD drive. And seven of his catches went for first downs, including two third-down conversions. That's a great game for any tight end.
