(mods if its wrong zone i understand)

I just realized....50 years ago yesterday. It was a Monday Night game....back when Monday night football was a real show. Cowboys at home against a pretty bad Chiefs team (they would end up with a 5-9 record). I was 11. And this is still one of the most bitter regular season losses for me. Just look at the team stats and how Dallas dominated, but notice the turnovers. Seven!! I was only allowed to stay up for the whole game if Dallas was playing. Otherwise, after Howard's halftime highlights it was lights out.

I didn't remember John Matuszak playing for the Chiefs. he was the Oiler's #1 overall pick in the 1973 draft.

LOL, the Chiefs fumble 7 times but only lose 2. Meanwhile, the Cowboys fumble 5 times and lose all 5.....typical.

50 years ago November 10, was also the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Thanks to Gordon Lightfoot for memorialising this tragedy.

i really only remember matuszak as a Raider. I think it was In Kenny Stabler's book that Matuszak was described as a wild man but showed up every Sunday

that 76 Raiders team was as dominant as any team I have watched. Younger people will look at scores and say they won a lot of close games. They went 13-1 and went on to blow out the Vikings in the super bowl. And by all reports, they drank til 3 in the morning but were ready at kick off. I think it was from about 74 to 76...Kenny Stabler was by far the best QB in football. Nobody close.

Me either. Just remember him as a scary player for a damn scary looking bunch in the 70's- the Real RAIDERS

Every once in a while, I watch games from back in the 70s/80s. I watch at work for a lack of anything else to do. I'll pick games where I do not know the outcome. I do notice a hell of a lot more fumbles than we see today. I think it's due to the gloves. They not only help you catch the ball, but also hold on to it. I motion to ban them.

Speaking of the '76 Raiders. Their one loss came in the form of a blowout loss to the Patriots. I forget the score. Many say the Patriots got robbed in the playoffs by a bad call, roughing the passer believe it or not. You know as well as I do, back then you had to actually rough the passer to get that call. So the Raiders caught a break, went on to take the lead, win, then eventually win the SB. The refs would return the favor 25 years later with that stupid tuck rule.

go figure buddy. I start about 5 threads a year and one I start devolves into a music thread. You cant make it up.

See Thursday night football has cheapened MNF today which in the 70’s was must see TV .
Wasn’t it a MNF game where the Cowboys & St Louis Cardinals played score was 38-0 . Meredith probably told Howard to turn out the lights at halftime .

Then the game when Cleveland was involved and the boyz in the booth bandied around the name Fair Hooker the Browns WR .

A professional wrestler named Dick Slater beat the crap out of Mutaszak who was being a bully back in those days. Humbled him a quite a bit, too.

In a not so distant future we will be saying...

50 years ago yesterday

We won our last Super Bowl.

When I saw your thread title, I actually expected it to be about the Fitz sinking. Your thread didn’t “devolve,” it actually got more responses and made it even more interesting, not to say it wasn’t already interesting. Glad I could be of help
