It is not our 50th season as we have played 50 already BUT it is the 50th anniversary of the start of the franchise.
1960-2010 is 50 years.
However, we are playing our 51st season.
You could not have said it was our 50th anniversary last year as it was the 50th season. This year you can say it is our 50th anniversary but not that it is our 50th season.
The Montreal Canadiens just celebrated their 100th anniversary. The franchise was born December 4, 1909 so we had our 100th birthday game December 4, 2009.
However, we started the celebration the year before for our 100th season even though they didn't factor in the strike year of 04-05 which wiped out a season.
In the end, does it really matter?
We had a new stadium last year, there was the 50th season celebration of the AFL teams.
I mean, come on, does it really matter in the overall scheme of things.
