9. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU, 6'0", 219. Trade up if we have to, but get him. If we can't, I believe we will either take Tyron Smith or trade down.

40. Benjamin Ijalana, OT, Villanova, 6'4", 317.
Have to fix the OL. It will be a RT most likely. Someone will fall to us at the 40 pick. If we take Tyron Smith in the 1st I can see Brandon Harris here if he falls, or Cameron Heyward.

71. Deunta Williams, FS, North Carolina, 6'2", 205. Still convinced he is the best Safety in the Draft and we can benefit by taking him.

109. John Moffitt, OG, Wisconsin, 6'4", 320. Guards drop in the Draft. Good for us. Perfect fit to start when he is ready.

140. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh, 6'0", 255. I'd take him even higher if I had to. This guy is a difference maker.

171. Cedric Thornton, DE, Southern Arkansas, 6'3", 309. A sleeper who could end up being so much more. Small school product who plays big.

209. Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama, 6'2", 225. He isn't following the tradition of Namath and Stabler to the NFL, but it won't matter. He's smart, intuitive and a future football coach which means I want him. Pedigree.

I think that would be a great draft but I DO NOT want to trade up in the 1st. I feel we really need those 1st 3 picks. We have a top 10 pick and I don't think we should be giving up valuable picks to move up a couple of spots. If we needed a QB and a franchise QB was falling then that would be different. The game is won and lost in the trenches and picking a CB while forfeiting our 3rd isn't the way I'd go. No prob with Peterson but not if we have to move up.

I don't know if this is in compliance with unofficial CowboysZone policy because Cecil Shorts was not selected, but it passes the Hynoski test and nabs some good players.

Make it so! :laugh2:

We need takeaways and fewer points allowed more than anything else. We've got a CB who is on the wrong side of 30 and no Safeties.

I absolutely feel CB or Safety is the #1 need.

As bad as RG and RT were we still nearly scored 400 points and that was with backups at QB.

Peterson far and away makes the most sense to me.

I agree that its a big need and that our D was the bigger prob last year. I think this is a draft that has great value/depth in the mid 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I think we can get a few starters with those picks and not having a 3rd would stink when there should be decent linemen/safeties in that area. I prefer to stay put or move down.

We can use the 3rd to move up in the 1st then trade down in the 2nd and get our 3rd back. Say 56 and 72 from Nawlins.

If we could land Carimi with the 2nd (I doubt he makes it past 25), then this would be an insane draft! Love it.

Question...I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times, but if we have a lockout what does that do to the 2012 draft? Do we keep the same draft order?

Curious the impacts if it were to happen.

They would slot everyone the same except the Commanders, who would pick last due to their continuing reign as offseason champs!

Who is going to play RT? Colombo was horrendous last year and no doubt he will be worse this year. If you trade up, you give up a 3rd round pick that could be used on a NT or secondary.

I think moving up for Peterson would be foolish. Hell, I think we would be better off, grabbing Smith at 9 and trading back up with the second pick in hopes that Prince falls pretty far and then convert him to safety.

Our offensive line is in very bad shape with Kosier a FA, BIGG being so slow off the name and Colombo is just a mess. Gurode is over 30, we are in trouble and we can't draft an entire offensive line in one year. It's time to start fixing it now.

Hell, you want secondary, pick up Huff in FA, but you MUST start doing something with the OL.

Nice mock...'cept you cheated. Have to cough up that 2nd or 3rd rounder if you take Peterson. Can't have your cake and eat it too Hos!

Also, I like Tyron but isn't he projected to play LT? I think we have our LT for the next 6-7 years and I would wonder if taking a LT to be moved to the right side is worth it that early.

Otherwise, I like all 7 picks...even if you did cheat. :)

I might pass on McElroy though...but as a 7th rounder it's no risk really.

Everytime I see a Hos mock I get happy lol if we somehow, someway leave the draft with Patrick Peterson I really don't know what I'll do. Might have to throw a Patrick Peterson Party! You all will be invited.

I don't think Peterson at 9 is out of the realm of possibility.

I've seen so many things happen on draft day that surprised me (and everyone else).

There are three things that can really make this happen for us.

1. Julio Jones blowing up the combine was HUGE for us. I think he works his way into the top ten....There's a possiblity that teams coveting a WR will trade their way into the top ten to take him.

2. QBs always tend to get overdrafted. Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert will get overdrafted. If one of those goes to Carolina....then the three top DL will be snatched up before Peterson gets taken.

3. San Francisco.....they need secondary help. If they are able to somehow get a guy like Nnamdi Ashomsasmassawygh (I can't SAY his name, let alone spell it) in FA, then they'll be able to take a QB or DL.

I can't remember the draft order...but it could go something like this:
Carolina: Newton
Denver: Bowers
Buffalo: Dareus
Cleveland: Green
Cinci: Jones
Arizona: Miller
San Fran: Gabbert
Tenn: Fairely
Dallas: Peterson

Hos, one of my favorites drafts and following a trend I will start reflecting and one I believe Dallas will take.

You basically fixed the defensive backfield and offensive line in the first 4 picks.

I would not at all be surprised to see at least 2 offensive lineman and 1 DB taken in the first 4 rounds.

Not sure ben is my favorite option but he might be the best value come draft day.

I think San Francisco will look to trade for a veteran QB rather than gambling on a rookie with a new coach like that.

Kevin Kolb, Kyle Orton, Donovan McNabb. Someone as a stopgap to get them in the playoffs while they find/groom their man of the future.

40. Benjamin Ijalana

is not a Starter IMO

was probably thier hardest competion

I don't think he is a day one starter - like Ducasse was last year

I tend to agree with you on SF--if for any other reason than that they seem to have almost all the parts in place except QB and DB. That lineup is actually pretty strong otherwise.

I agree. 2 DB's and 2 OL's with the first 4 picks would be great.

Go with offensive weapons the rest of the draft. Kick returner/ Slot receiver, RB, Project QB.

After the Alex Smith disaster, I just can't see them comitting that kind of salary to another first round QB bust.

Although with a rookie wage scale, I can see them taking Newton, Gabbert, even Jake Locker. Remember, Harbaugh did get to see Locker up close every year - gameplanning, film, etc. If Locker has issues that need correcting, Harbaugh's the man for the job.
