54-19. Dig it. Will the media at least make us top 2 in the NFC?

Media ratings mean absolutely zero in the NFL, thankfully. Unlike college football, which still mostly uses a “beauty pageant” model to choose their playoff participants, the NFL puts no measure of “style points” in their playoff system.

Only fans and sports media care about how teams look beating opponents. I put zero stock in these NFL power ratings. Not knocking those who do but I don’t think it’s accurate or meaningful. IMO.

I’m probably only concerned about the rankings if we’re low down them, because then we’re obviously struggling.

Even if we're low in them though I don't need the media to tell my we're playing poorly. I have eyes.. I guess it's just one of those things I am not meant to understand.. Kinda like people who buy Britney Spears records.. or Kendrick Lamar.. I'm not the target audience.. and I'm fine with that.

I mean we have to be #2 behind the Eagles at this point in the NFC. We beat the Vikes badly and are only one game behind them. San Fran losing Jimmy G is a big blow.

Pecking order for me would be Philly, us, Vikes, 49ers............. I guess the Seahawks as #5?

If San Fran had Jimmy G, sure. But with him done for the year, I think the 49ers tumble a bit here.

Shanahan called more pass plays with Purdy in there than I ever would have thought. He must know something about that kid because I thought their plan of attack was a lot less conservative once Jimmy went down. I mean 37 pass attempts in less than a full game for a rookie seeing his first extended action? Garoppolo only hit that number 3 times this season and Purdy does it his first time out, in less than a full game? That means Shanahan may trust him more than he did Jimmy G. Which of course will take a huge bit out of his arse eventually. Especially if he tries that against our defense. Which by the way held its third straight opponent to and its third straight top 10 running back under 100 yards rushing last night. But I'm not gonna say it..

Whoops I just noticed that the Colts used some of those garbage time runs to get to 106 last night... Damn..

Did we play as poorly in the first half against Minnesota as we did last night?
The game doesn't end at halftime. 100's of games are won even though the winning team didn't play particularly well the whole game. When the final whistle blew, we had trashed a bad team. What more do you want?

Good fans and Visiting Neptune Society members, I ask this urbane and reasoned question because the sports media seem to have a favoritism for east coast west coast and upper midwest.

With such a score, I would put the Eagles and the Cowboys in a close 1-2 race to win the NFC.

Garoppolo is out for the season.

Only Filthy stands in tha way --- our way --- dear lads.

Media better wake up and give credit where credit is few.

The media is a joke. Supposed fan Bayless was making an issue out of a 21-19 lead in the 3rd quarter. We all know the end result, but all the “experts” will focus on a close game for three quarters! No mention of juggernaut Philly escaping Indy with a one point victory!

THought overall the run D was pretty solid last night. Some frustrating big runs for Taylor due to not setting the edge or a missed tackle but overall, not too bad. They have to continue to get better there. Teams, when the postseason comes, are going to try to jam it down our throats.

The playoff seeding system is in place, rankings are unnecessary,

However, I do not agree with the NFL’s division winners getting home playoff games. I would base it solely off records.

IMO we're #3 in the NFC behind philthy and San Fran until we beat them.
San Fran now has a rookie QB. Unless their D plays lights out, they are in trouble. Eagles are the big dog now, but that could certainly change.

Indeed they are.. but you're not going to face any better backs than Cook, Barkley and Taylor.. with the possible exception of course of Henry.. but the one thing about Henry is that his elongated stride causes him to take longer to get going thus if you can get penetration and get to him in the backfield you can neuter him to some degree. But the Titans line is good.. really good.. They do a really good job of getting Henry to the second level untouched on a lot of his carries.. and at his size, by the time he gets to the second level he's a major problem. The good news is Tannehill doesn't really threaten the defense much more than the last three QBs did. So Quinn can really focus in on the run when they face Henry.

But, yes, to you 3 and 4 are good enough.
To me? How the hell do you thing you know what is "good enough" to me?

It doesn't matter to me if they are #1, #2, #3 or whatever. Never has. Show me in January when it counts.

If we played a good team they would have buried us in the first half.
Does it matter, we played a good team in Minnesota and blew them out of the water…
Yesterday we didn’t play as well but blew the opposition out of the water.
You’re assuming someone else would have scored more, but you have no factual evidence to prove it… and while we didn’t play as well as we could in the first half, maybe the opposition deserves a bit of credit for not letting us.

IslandCowboy is right. Coming out that flat against a good team would have spelled trouble. Being careless with the football, giving up big plays in the air (AB), giving up easy td (Diggs), its all stuff that has to be cleaned up. If you want factual evidence look no further than the SF playoff game, getting into even a 10 pt hole against a good team can be an uphill battle.

Yeah as far as I know, no rookie QB has ever won the Super Bowl and I'm not counting on Mr. Irrelevant to be that dude.

No rookie QB has ever even made it to the Super Bowl so unless Purdy turns into a smaller version of Tom Brady the 49ers are cooked for this season. I was listening to 95.7 out there and the radio guys were all talking about how his lack of arm strength to hit the throws outside the numbers will be his downfall. Thing is in the WCO you don't need a big arm. You just need to be accurate and have timing. If he has that he will be okay but I seriously doubt he'll be good enough to get them very far in the playoffs. But that defense held Rodgers and Co. to what 6? points last year in the playoffs. Even a rook can find at least one TD right? If all he has to do is score 10 points they have a shot.
