The luxuries of the modern-day football recruit have escaped Dane Warp.
The 17-year-old 3-star quarterback and shooting guard for the Havre (Montana) Blue Ponies is a throwback in many ways.
Since he entered high school, he’s been busy rewriting Havre High’s record books on the gridiron and the hardwood.
According to MaxPreps, for his football career, the 6’4”, 190-pounder has passed for 8,407 yards and 78 touchdowns while completing more than 65 percent of his passes.
He owns the Havre High single-season records for passing yards and total touchdowns, and he’s on pace to break the Montana state records in career passing touchdowns (needs five more) and passing yards (needs 501 yards). As for basketball, the state’s career-points mark is also within his sights if he has a strong senior season.
Despite his athletic exploits and a 4.0 GPA with a goal to major in the medical field in college, Warp’s dream of landing a scholarship offer from a big-time college football program seems to be out of his reach. He does, however, hold one offer in football from the University of Mary, which is a Division II school located in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Stats look great but what kind of competition is he playing against. If he played in Cali, Florida, Texas and had the same stats he would have every college lined up at his door.

Not every kid is going to be D1 but there are a lot of other schools.
I am sure the level of competition in Montana high school football/basketball is a concern.

From a basketball stand point he needs to travel and play if he wants to focus there.

Football-wise he could walk on somewhere or he could go JUCO if that's his focus.

OR he could drop sports and focus on getting into a good academic school and focus on medical school.

He has lots of options.

Seems like this kid has enough to get a chance to play at some D1 school. We got guys at Texas who are getting graded on how close to the feet of the receiver they got the ball. IDK.

nothing wrong with going the junior college or D2 route. go some place where he can play immediately against good competition and he'll get offers to better schools.

That's what I wondered... both Montana and Montana State have successful FCS Programs, although they regularly recruit out of state...

Was fully expecting to read, "because he's a QB who measures in at 5'7'' and that just isn't tall enough".

Little shocked to see he's listed at ideal height, although I'm a bit skeptical. I'd also be hard pressed to believe he's 190, even when sopping wet.

That still, still a little shocked he hasn't had more interest. Smart and has some ability. Usually not a bad combo.
