1. Buffalo Bills, Pick#3: Word out of Orchard Park is that the Bills are leaning towards passing on a QB and focusing on a primer defensive player or upgrading the OL. 4 different players made a start for the Bills at RT in 2010 and the average Bills fan will have a hard time naming their starting LT (Demetrius Bell). The Bills are in a position where a team that covets one of the top players in this draft could easily slide into their spot and with many holes to fill and financial difficulties a trade down could be attractive for Buffalo. A trade down in the top 8 would put them in a prime spot to land Smith. Most of all, we are talking about the Bills. If there is a team other then the Bengals and Raiders that you can bet on making you say "what" on draft day, it's the Bills.

2. Cincinnati Bengals, Pick#4: Much like the Bill and the Cowboys, the head coach and owner have singled out the offensive line as the one spot that will be upgraded in the off season. 4 of the 5 starters on the Bengals offensive line are either FA's or entering the final year of a contract. On top of that, they average 32 years old per player across the offensive line. The Bengals could look to land one of the two QB's or go at a skill position like WR or like the Bills, they have a lot of leverage in a trade down. Also like the Bills, the Bengals are notoriously unpredictable!

3. Arizona Cardinals, Pick #5: Consider if Von Miller goes to Buffalo and the Cardinals are set on adding a Vet QB, what is their next biggest need? You should of said offensive tackle where 7 year vet Levi Brown has been less then steady on the left side and may be best fit as a RT at this point. If you take a OT at #5 he should be able to play LT. This spot more then any for several reasons could be the spot that steals Smith from the Boys.

4. Cleveland Browns, Pick #6: After John St Clair was released I challenge anyone to name a contender on the Browns roster for the RT position. Tony Pasho's was signed as a FA but their is concern that he may not return to form if at all. The Browns have several positions that need addressed and should offer good value at 6 so a choice of Smith would be a bit of a surprise but Holmgren is a football guy and knows the importance of offensive line play.

5. New England Patriots, Pick 17 & 28: It's no secret the Patriots have the fire power to move up any where they want in the draft and it's becoming a poorly kept secret that upgrading the offensive line as a whole is a priority. It's also very evident the Patriots have taking a grand liking to Smith. It would be pretty easy for them to leapfrog Dallas to 8 with the picks they have.

6. Washington Commanders, Pick 10: Guess who had the biggest showing at Smith's pro day? Guess who met with him at the Combine? Guess who has invited him in for a private visit? Yes, the Commanders. More quietly then any team, the Skins have shown the most interest in Smith and while all the attention seems to be on the Skins looking QB or WR those in the know think Joe Bugels nod of approval from USC's pro day despite announcing his retirement could be a sign everyone is missing. Sure he they would need to jump the Cowboys but if they are that sold a trade up two spots would be very cost effective.

7. Detroit Lions, Pick 13: Probably more then any team in the league, the Lions need to upgrade the offensive line. Jeff Backus is on his last leg, they have no depth or youth to speak of and they have turned up the heat in recent weeks on Smith. A move up from the 13th would be friendly on the wallet and while CB may be more of a pressing need the draft could determine that possibility.

8. Stock of a hot prospect in a class where no elite prospects exist when in high demand: You can never under estimate the stock of hot prospect like Smith when the draft comes around. With so many teams looking for offensive line help and Smith establishing himself at the top of the class it's a recipe for a draft day shocker. We have seen it in the past, we see it every year. A players stock surpass his value because of built up hype and the excitement of draft day always caused a team or two to lose their composure. It seems to be brewing with Smith and we are hearing more and more talk about him going higher then 9. Typically where there is smoke their is fire.

Well I think atleast 2 QBs go before #9 so if Tyron Smith goes too, Dallas will be left with the likes of Peterson, Miller, Dareus or Quinn...you gotta "likes" that.

Throw in Prince and Fairley to that mix and we shouldnt be disappointed with any of those 6.

I don't think there's a team in the league that will trade up for Tyron Smith, personally. He's not light years ahead of the other OT prospects, I don't even think he's currently the most polished prospect.

If we don't get Smith, than we better get Peterson. I will not be happy if we do not get either. I don't think we have a shot a Peterson though. Sorry Hos.

Hmmm, had you listed 9 reasons then I might have believed you.:)

Reason #9: Smith is best suited for a zone blocking scheme, the guy just plays better in space, so he makes absolutely no sense for a unit coached by Houck, who specializes in man blocking. Houck has always preferred power over finesse.

Yea Im not letting a soon to be out the door 70 year old OL coach influence whether or not I take a 20 year old franchise LT.

LOL. We shall see.

This is a good post, SDogo. You are right. Drafts can be unpredictable, especially this one.

You make some strong points, especially the Cardinals. Wisenhunt backs Levi Brown strongly in public (at LT), but you never know. I'm hoping the head coach would have trouble selling decision makers on drafting Smith, if it came down to that. If the Cardinals did want to move down for Smith, the board would have to go a certain way, I think. I think Robert Quinn could be a wildcard for them, a backup plan for not getting Von Miller. Quinn will benefit from Bowers' tumble, and his stock is rising fast, too. Patrick Peterson, if available, would fit at CB, but he could be the last firewall. They could start a bidding war for Peterson if, for some reason, they didn't want him. Von Miller could go top 3. Gabbert probably will not make it to them. Would they draft A.J. Green? I would, but I don't know about the Cardinals.

Cardinals could have these guys on the short list:

Von Miller
Blaine Gabbert
Patrick Peterson
Robert Quinn
Tyron Smith

The Bills are unpredictable like you said, and they do need OL help. However, the heat is on up there due to some erratic drafting in the past. I think Cam Newton is going number 1, and I don't think they will draft Gabbert based on what I've read for a while now. I think Miller is probably their top guy. After that, I think Marcell Dareus and Patrick Peterson fit a great need. They are known to be high on Peterson. I think Miller, Dareus, or Peterson will make Buffalo stay at 3. I think there is a strong firewall there at 3. Plus, you have A.J. Green. Passing on all four of those guys and not getting one of them would be crazy, imo. I think they stay put.

The Bengals have a very good LT in Andrew Whitworh and have number 6 overall money tied up in Andre Smith, so I don't think they would draft Smith in the top 10. Lombardi says that the Bengals use a scouting service, and Peterson and Green will probably be rated very high. Lombardi specifically mentioned Peterson probably being rated very high on their board. I think the firewall is strong here, too. They have two number 1 picks playing CB, and Joseph could walk this year. Hall is up after this year. They are a real threat to take Peterson (if on the board) If they don't take a CB, Nick Fairley/Marcel Dareus and Robert Quinn could figure into this equation. They are picking four, and they are going to get a top blue chip player. A.J. Green fits a big need, too. I think the firewall is strong here.

The Browns have Heckert from Philadelphia running their draft, and they have shown significant interest in Smith. He believes in building inside out. Joe Thomas would seem to be a huge firewall, but I think Heckert would have no problem pulling the trigger on Smith at 6. They play in the AFC North where the Ravens and Steelers live. However, they have some good RT options later and already have a top 3 LT, and they have scoped some lower tiered RTs out. Smith will most likely be on a short list of players, and they met with him at the combine, too. If I had to guess, I would say these guys:

Marcell Dareus
Nick Fairley
Robert Quinn
Patrick Peterson
A.J. Green
Tyron Smith

I think the talent rich DL will probably be too much to pass up. A.J. Green or Patrick Peterson could be wildcards here (if on the board), because they would probably be the best player available. If Heckert follows his track record in Philadelphia, he will most likely pick a defensive linemen in order to start solidifying his defensive line and look to fill RT later. They are going to the 43, and a player like Fairley or Quinn would be ideal. The 49ers have shown significant interest in Quinn, and the Titans have Nick Fairley's defensive line coach at Auburn, coaching the DL for the Titans now. If the Browns want to get one of these guys, they will have to stay put.

The Patriots hardly ever move up. They mostly move down. However, if they move up, it will not be for a WR or CB. It will be for a linemen, Dareus or Smith. They do have the ammunition, but do they have the will? I think pick 17 is too far back for a team in the top 8 or 9 to drop back, imo. That team in the top 8 would be losing a blue chip player and losing the advantage of picking so high in the first round. Second and third round picks are no sure bets and having an extra one, means you have to hit twice and not once.

Look for NE to trade down with their second first round pick and possibly with their pick at 17. They might trade down with pick 33, too. NE is sitting in the catbird seat, with all the teams needing QBs. They could help three teams get a QB and move down. They are not picking in a very good spot at 17 for sure. After pick 12, you have a significant drop off, imo. Look for NE to get their o-line help in the second round. When you are a 14-2 team and can acquire multiple second round picks (by moving two or three picks) why would you trade way up? I don't think they will move up that far, again, if they did happen to pull a stunner, they are most likely coming for Dareus or Smith. Cameron Jordan may be a more economical move up for NE if they think that he will not make it to 17.

Wes Bunting states that Tyron Smith is better than Trent Williams, and the Commanders line is in shambles, aside from Williams. They need to seriously solidify it. Rodney Hudson is most likely a center that they covet. I don't think the Commanders would hesitate to pull the trigger on Smith at 10, if he is the best player on the board when they pick. Julio Jones is the big WR that they have been chasing for a while. He could be the pick. However, they play in the NFC East. DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Osi Umen, Trent Cole, Justin Tuck, Brandon Graham (first round pick), and Jason Pierre Paul (first round pick) live in the division. They don't have a whole lot of picks, and they are prime candidates to move down if they can.

I'd add Minnesota to the list. If they don't go for Mallet at 12 or in a trade down, Smith is probably going to be the highest rated player on their board if he is there. Where did Tyron Smith fly to when he left Dallas? Minnesota. I keep hearing vet QB there, and they are not happy with McKinney on or off the field.

Detroit (like you mention).. Drafting in the teens is not a good place to be in this draft, imo.

Smith will most likely not clear Washigton, Minnesota, and Detroit if Dallas did trade down with Smith with the board.

If there is a team that kind of worries me in this draft (as far as dropping down) it may be S.F. However, if Robert Quinn is on the board, I think they take him. The question is this? Would they take Prince Amukamara at 7? I'm not sure. That seems really high for him, imo. I think they would take A.J. Green. I don't think they take Fairley. I think they would take Dareus, but he should be long gone. They would take Peterson if giving the chance.

Detroit is sitting at 13, and Gosselin says that there are 12 blue chip players in the draft, so, you are right. They could want to move up. If they go back into the late teens and early 20s, they will see the same level of talent, imo.

All things being equall on draft day, Mike Pouncy (a player that you could argue is a late first to early second round pick) will be getting his tweet from Charlie Sheen. :)

Again, all things being equal, Tyron Smith's agent is going to be sending Mike Pouncy a "tweet". "Winning"....

However, things are not always equal.

S.F. (at 7) scares me a little bit as far as dropping.

The Cowboys will not draft Nick Fairley. I'm pretty confident about that.

Seriously, we're talking about Smith possibly going in the top 5 now?

The guy has never even played left tackle and is going to be asked to play at least 30 pounds heavier than he ever has before in his life.

Lets temper expectations a bit.. sheesh.

"I could never gain weight at USC," Smith explained. "I stayed off campus and barely had enough money to pay for my place. I had a meal plan to eat once a day. I only had a couple of bucks in my pocket, so I'd eat at like Jack-in-the Box or McDonalds. I was only eating once or twice a day. It was hard to keep that weight on, since I was working out all the time and always running.

"Once I did go to API in Arizona, they got me on a nutrition system and I was eating three meals a day and a shake after my workout. I was just having the proper calories each day and I think everything is just working out for the best. The weight I have now feels more natural. I can still move around quickly as I was at 285. I'm at 310, I'll play there or 315. The weight I'm at right now, teams feel like is perfect. Right now, I'm just trying to maintain it."

Now that Smith has developed into the prototype size of an NFL tackle, he also adds some versatility that all teams covet. While he played the last two years at right tackle, Smith said he's not only more familiar with the left side, but it's a better fit.

"The left side feels more comfortable to me," he said. "I played the left side from high school to my freshman year in college. I played right side - sophomore and junior season. But I'll play either side

....................

So again.. he's going to be playing at least 30 pounds heavier than he ever has before, and he's never played left tackle (above high school).

There should be a bit of concern over these two issues, despite his tremendous athletic potential.

A. He wouldnt be locked into either tackle position.

2. He is at or around the average tackle weight in the NFL. He has shown how he moves at that weight to Garrett in person.

D. I dont think anyone is saying he is a finished product. But there seems to be a lot of nit-picking w/ Tyron. First it was "Hes too light, he will never put on weight". Then he puts on the weight in a few weeks(who knew a teenager running non-stop, and eating Ramen noodles would be a little thin) and people say "Well he just put on a bunch of weight, this could throw him all off"

Why would Washington go for Smith? They took Trent Williams #4 last year and traded for Jammal Brown.

Because as many of us stated at the time, Jammal Brown isnt that good.

Understood. But didn't they invest a lot in him?

I dont recall if they signed him to a long term extension or not. It could be that perhaps they are considering a move inside to G for him. I know they traded a decent amount for him.

That's what I was referring to. The picks they gave up to get him. I'm not sure if he was given a hefty contract.
