We have to clean this up but to be honest, it was an issue last season also. We left a lot of points on the field coz of FGs or no points. Something I admired about the late Bill Walsh and Belichik teams, they were opportunists, nearly every turnover cost you 7 points.

Here's Belichick's comment(s) on turnovers a few years ago....he calls this stat and points scored the most impact of all team stats.

New England’s opportunistic defense recovered 21 fumbles and had 20 interceptions, including three in the end zone by defensive back Devin McCourty. Both of those numbers led the A.F.C. The 21 fumble recoveries led the league. The Bears, the Commanders and the Giants each had more than 20 interceptions.

“It’s taking advantage of your opportunities,” Belichick said this week. “If you have an opportunity to get it, then you need to get it. We practice them and hopefully when we get the opportunity, we can capitalize and make those count. Those are opportunities; you only get so many of them on defense. You need to capitalize on whichever ones you get.”

Somewhat misleading stat. Is one of those takeaways the Lawrence return for a defensive touchdown? Are some of those deep on Dallas' end of the field?

In fairness one turnover happened right before halftime less than 10 sec left on the clock before halftime. If not mistaken another turnover ended the game for NY so we ran the clock out.
but the facts are our Rush led offense had us bottom ten or worse in scoring, thats glaring. Hope Dak infuses little energy in that area.

Fully agree, I expect more out of Dak and this offense. My statement as I said at the start was in all fairness. I'm love the fact we get Dak back and I think this offense will start producing much better

Yes, and 2 others against the Rams were very late in the 4th where we were just trying to burn time, or in the case of the last one, ended the game.

The 3 points with Dak was the biggest negative to our scoring average.

I agree, I made no excuses for the Tampa game. I expect more of out this offense and more out of him. This was the #1 scoring offense in the league last year, people can spin that how they choose but fact is for majority of games this offense did not have issues scoring as they have of late.

100%. I'm not Dak homer, but if Dak had performed like Rush has the last 5 weeks, there would be three pages of threads titled "Dak tried to choke but the defense bailed him out again."

well yeah, we all expect him to perform like a 40 mill QB vs a journeyman backup.

right. if accurate though, does that mean, that play and only one field goal? fairly surprising.

We lead the league in turnovers last year and I'm sure it played a major part in winning 12 games but the fact is it could have helped a whole more. Their impact was more defensive. By that I mean for every turnover we at least took away an opportunity for our opponent to score but many times I recall we didn't convert offensively or settled for 3 points.

first off, was our Team, not dak game against that defense but i saw the final scores, they were bottom 10 no matter how you see it., dak didn't drop the passes, didn't not get open, abandon the run, too many penalties etc etc etc

Pont is and was and always will be, given Dak the same support you got to Rush, and the points would be higher. we saw that many times. . daks always had us top 10 in offense sometimes top 5 let's stop having selective amnesia!

I agree Turnover should results in points Dallas had 3 turnover and missed 4th down and lead to Philly putting up 13 points off mistakes

Here's the big nothingburger this is:

Week one (with Dak) - 1 interception near midfield. Really the last chance to try and make it a game. Offense goes 3 plays for 0 yards.
Week 3 - Interception at the end of the game. The offense kneels.
Week 4 - 1st Interception - :08 left in the first half. Offense runs simple run and closes the half. 2nd Interception - Late in the 4th quarter, offense gets 9 yards and kicks a FG.
Week 5 - Fumble is returned for a TD. Interception - 3:29 left in the 4th, the offense just runs it 3 times to milk clock. 2nd Fumble - 1:30 left in the game - kneel down.

So of the 7:

3 were at a point in the game where there was a kneel down (or runs one run play).
1 was returned for a TD
1 was late in the game and the offense just milked a little bit more off the clock (the interceptor even slid down instead of trying to gain more yards - which he easily could have).

That leaves a whopping 2 for the offense to do anything with. One (with Dak) they went absolutely nowhere. The other (with Rush) they didn't do much, but it was late and they didn't need to, and they were already in FG position.

So the only turnover that the offense could have done anything with, and didn't get points from, is the first.

I said with Dak, not because of him. Though he contributed heavily as he played very poorly in that game.
