I saw yesterday someone here posted in a thread "Is this the 92 Cowboys?" I began thinking about this last night after that too cool win at Lambeau. I came away thinking this is more like 91 than 92.
Then, of course, on the radio this afternoon one of the hosts made the comment about it.
In 91 Dallas was showing muscle for the first time. They were 7-9 the year before (90) and posted 11-5 in 91. Aikman was injured in 91 and Beuerlein came in an ran off five straight wins from week 13-17 (remember the bye 16 games in 17 weeks.)
Dallas edge Chicago 17-13 in the first round of the play-offs, but then ran into Barry Sanders and the Detroit Lions with Erik Kramer at QB and got toasted 38-6. Dallas could not handle Sanders, and that made their play-action deadly with Kramer. Aikman finished up the game, maybe being inserted at the half.
This caused Jerry/Jimmy (I have heard different stories about who actually made the move, but think this was Jerry's deal and it pissed off Jimmy) to go out and get Haley. And some better DBs.
That put Dallas in position to post a 13-3 season in 1992 and a date with destiny.
Dallas is in a similar position in that they need that pass rusher who has to be accounted for. I am not predicting, but I see the similarities here. And to be sure the differences.
Dallas gets a smattering of good fortune and Jaylon Smith shows up and becomes what he was before the injury, and Jerry/Staff draft/free agent a stud defensive end to bookend opposite Tank Lawrence, and one more DB, then acquire this team's Alvin Harper across from Dez and get ready folks.
This could be six, seven, and eight for this team.

Garrett said today Romo will not practice this week. He will need more than one week's practice to face his eventual opponent. Does this mean Dak starts against the Eagles?
I think so because Jerry will not miss this opportunity to put his 4th round QB against the eagles 1st round QB. The opportunity is just to tasty for Jerry to say, "See what I got three rounds later!"
My opinion is Dallas toasts the Birds in Jerry World for all to see.

The empty backfield set has shown us Butler, Williams, Beasley, Witten and Elliott/Whitehead.
Does Dez, Williams, Beasley, Witten and Elliott/Whitehead excite you more? Will Dez need a game to get chemistry with the rest of these guys?
But truthfully with Dez, Williams, Beasley and Witten, they can combo with Butler/Elliott, or Whitehead and still run out of the empty backfield with motion, or go big's deep and throw underneath or deep.
Elliott brings so much to this offense, but with the mobility of Dak, and his poise and patience, the possibilities a defense has to reckon with are almost endless.
This offense showed whitehead on that jet sweep. Now imagine that is Elliott, but as the defense reads this after watching film on Whitehead, and they react by moving in the direction Elliott is running, the OL then seals off the middle and opens a cutback lane for Elliott with trips WR and Witten clearing out the DBs.

Sorry for the long post, but I am really pumped by this team. You have to hand it to the management, they have produced some very decent picks over the last few years.
This bye week will be almost as long as the off-season.
