A 3-4 video tutorial for Mike Zimmer

On the eve of the Holiday Bowl, I felt this was appropriate. This is video footage from the 1990 Holiday Bowl between Texas A&M and BYU. BYU came into the game with the #1 offense in the NCAA, the best QB (numbers wise) in college football history, and an offensive genius for a head coach. Texas A&M ran a 3-4 defense at the time. Texas A&M won the game 65-14, and their defense recorded 10 sacks, forced 5 turnovers, separated BOTH of Detmer's shoulders, and held the best offense CF had ever seen to less than 300 yards of total offense and just 14 points.

Take special note, Zimmy, of the play at the 57 second mark. Notice how, using a 3-4, A&M blitzes 7 men against 7 blockers and 4 of them break through the line. Amazing what proper gapo assingments can do, eh?

Nah.. We also shouldn't put our blitzing scheme on the weather channel.

wow dude. I just watched the whole thing.. well ,at least the first defensive part of it... It's amazing how well they disguised the blitz. You couldn't tell who was coming from one snap to the next.

Seeing that just sickens my stomach even more when I think about what we're doing out there with our version of the 3-4.

The best part is, ge tthis, A&M only had two of their starting DBs for that game. They started a true freshman and a sophmore in the secondary, and still blitzed that aggresively.
