Who will come back from injuries?

Who will be phased out?

What free agents will be re-signed?

What fringe players increase their role?

Who on the practice squad makes the team?

Injuries:

Right now we have the following players on IR: Adams, Singleton, Ratliff, Beriault, Thornton, Pagel, Visintainer and Rogers.

Adams should recover from his injury, but will his cap number be too high? I'd say 95% chance he's a Cowboy.

Singleton will be healthy, but he's older, expensive and a poor fit for the
3-4. 95% chance he's gone.

Ratliff was more of a roster saving move than a serious injury. 95% chance he's a Cowboy.

Beriault seems to be recovering well. 75% chance he's a Cowboy.

Thornton is in the same boat as Beriault. 50% chance he's a Cowboy.

Pagel was picked up for insurance and got a free ride on IR. 75% chance he's gone.

Visintainer, he's a kicker. 90% chance he's gone.

Rogers never actually got released. 90% chance he's gone.

Older vets:

K. Johnson, Nguyen, Ellis, Glover, Coleman, Ogbogu and A. Glenn.

Key is getting up there, but who is in the wings? 90% chance he's a Cowboy.

Dat is a solid player, but he's over 30, coming off a neck injury and is not an ideal fit for the 3-4. 85% chance he's a Cowboy.

Ellis like Dat he's doing what he can in a less than ideal situation, plus he has a roster bonus due. 70% chance he's a Cowboy.

Glover is just on here because of all the early talk of this season. 95% chance he's a Cowboy.

Coleman is just a guy. 40% chance he's a Cowboy.

Ogbogu got cut already. 95% chance he's gone.

Glenn is getting old and has had some break downs. 50% chance he's a Cowboy.

Free agents:

Campbell, Gurode, Price, Pile, and Fujita.

Campbell epitomizes the term Parcells guy. 90% chance we re-sign him.

Gurode did not work at guard, the rotation at center has almost vanished. 75% chance he's gone.

Price inactive and barely used since Crayton's injury. 80% chance he's gone.

Pile seems like a guy Parcells likes. 50% chance he stays.

Fujita struggled early, has come on lately, talk is we are trying to work a deal. 90% chance we re-sign him.

Fringe players:

Henson, Romo, Tucker, Thompson, Copper, Pierce, Polite, Peterman, Noll, Columbo, Johnson, Fowler, Jones, and Reeves.

Henson we'll see what 16 weeks of being a different QB can do for him. 95% chance he's a Cowboy.

Romo the coaches seem to like him, but he's probably reached his ceiling. 85% chance he's a Cowboy.

Tucker is being given every chance to prove his worth. 80% chance he's a Cowboy.

Thompson he's raw but talented. 80% chance he's a Cowboy.

Copper needs to show it at WR, too. 60% chance he's a Cowboy.

Pierce is in the Campbell mold with better hands and can deep snap. 80% chance he's a Cowboy.

Polite he's smart and a Parcells favorite. 80% chance he's a Cowboy.

Peterman he's mean and a mauler that needs refinement. 85% chance he's a Cowboy.

Noll plays guard and tackle. 60% chance he's a Cowboy.

Columbo talented with issues, we are taking a shot. 40% chance he sticks.

Johnson the guy has a motor. 75% chance he's a Cowboy.

Fowler all special teams, will that be enough? 75% chance he's gone.

Jones has been okay. 60% chance he's a Cowboy.

Reeves see Jones. 50% chance he's a Cowboy.

Practice squad:

Crowder, Rector, Tolver, Kincade, Curtis, Ryan, Tarullo and Jamison.

Crowder has that Tasker thing going, he also has that Dantzler thing. 50% chance he makes the team.

Rector got some props today, he's been working at CB and WR. 60% chance he makes the team.

Tolver who? 95% chance he's gone.

Kincade has a lot of players in front of him that are all young. 80% chance he's gone.

Curtis showed enough to make the PS, but his fate is tied to Campbell leaving. 60% chance he's on the PS again.

Ryan was the favorite for the # 3 TE spot, his injury sealed his fate, I'm not so sure he's have beaten out Pierce had he stayed healthy. 75% chance he's gone.

Tarullo got a lot of props from Parcells in TC can play G and C. 70% chance he makes the team.

Jamison is insurance for Ratliff at best. 80% chance he's gone.

I'd say that too, that's until Parcells has as much confidence in TUcker, as he does in Flo, manning Bledsoe's blind-side

yep, looks like Fujita is the near future at his spot

Ratliff was more of a roster saving move than a serious injury. 95% chance he's a Cowboy.

due to the simple fact that he's relatively cheap, and Parcells' 3-year rule for rookies

blindzebra said:

I'd say 100%, Parcells and the coaching staff are really intrigued by him, and again, 3-year rule for rookies

blindzebra said:

3-year rule, I say he has a much better chance to stick than that, and Parcells doesn't give up on players he's intrigued with, see Torrin Tucker

I think he'll be brought back in the offseason to compete again for the FS job, or at the least, add a MC and TC body

blindzebra said:

I agree, but all depends on what they do with the kicker situation, if no veteran is brought in, and/or Parcells wants again to give Cundiff comp., he'll be brought back

Rogers never actually got released. 90% chance he's gone.

I agree with pretty much all of it, except for Glenn will see out his 2-year deal in Dallas

again, pretty much agree with everything, except I think Parcells brings back Gurode on the cheap

I think it's the other way around with Romo at 95% and Henson probably closer to 75%.

First off, unless we see some bizarre total collapse, Bledsoe has won another year in Dallas.

With Parcells's words regarding the backup QBs, and Romo being promoted over Henson on the depth charts as well as signing an extension, it shows who the Cowboys believe in for future depth. I know Henson is a long-term project but I'm sure Parcells is nervous as hell having two guys back there who have barely played a lick of pro ball, especially since the passing game has proven to be a lot more lethal than the Cowboys thought it would. Both Jones and Parcells have commented that Bledsoe has greatly exceeded expectations. If the Cowboys go after another vet, a young player like Rivers, or a high draft pick for their next QB, expect Henson to be the odd man out, and that's why I'm giving him 75% and Romo 95%.

All indications are that Parcells and Jones have confidence in Romo as a backup, and all indications are that Henson is not progressing like they thought he would.

I know that few will believe me because everyone has convinced themselves that Henson is the future franchise QB... just like they did with Hutchinson even though he never looked any good when the pocket collapsed... just like they did with Quincy even though he could read defenses about as well as a high school QB.... just like they did with Henson in his one pro game in which he was so awful, Parcells pulled him at halftime.

Folks will always try to convince themselves that the "future QB" is on his way, regardless of how realistic it is. I won't be surprised if the Cowboys bring in a 4th QB (one with a good shot, not an undrafted rookie free agent) for training camp.

F

I agree with you even though I think Hensen has more upside potential. Romo has earned his spot and I don't see BP cutting him loose in favor of Henson. I guess it could happen if the Cowboys were to bring in another QB who could be a solid # 2 while continuing to be patient with Henson, but I don't see it happening.

BTW, Parcells made a comment a couple of weeks ago to reporters that Romo could end up being a starting QB in the league. It doesn't seem like he's in any hurry to replace him.

Very good post, Blindzebra. Very thought provoking.

I honestly think that we could very well be drafting a QB #1 come next draft.

I think you missed the point a bit, so I'll elaborate.

I really think that messing with his motion was the problem and 16 weeks of running the scout team will really help.

I fully expect Henson to take a major step.

As for Romo I think he is where he will always be at #2 so depending on what we do in the draft and what strides Henson makes, I can see a scenario where Henson assumes the back up spot and we begin developing another QB.

That said, I think it's a long shot that we bring in another QB next year.

I didnt finish this post, no disrespect but I really dont care AT THIS POINT, I want to see what the team we have right now can accomplish. I think if we can win the division or get a wild card spot and win that first playoff game, that will be the big deciding factor for BP on how much he needs to change.....I agree with most of what you said however I also believe Romo has more job stability here than does Henson.......great post and great information......IMO a few weeks too early......but who am I.
