You cant stop a Trane

These days the A/C industry is very incestuous... The big ones have bought the little ones out under the radar...

Do a little research and find out what you will be buying...

I know that Trane and American Standard are pretty much the same, kind of like Chevy and GM.

Said my compressor, capacitor, contactor and hard start kit all needed replacing.

Called one of my grandfather's friends who did A/C work for 40 years and he sold me on the Trane. Having an XR14 installed on Tuesday.

5 ton? How big is your house?

Or is that a standard size?

I think mine is only a 1 ton but my house is only 1350 sq ft.

Your unit should be a 3 ton or a 3.5 ton for that sq ft. Tonage is based on sq. ft. Larger the sq. ft. more tonage.

The company I used to work for sold Trane. The XR14 is a great unit. American Standard is just Trane's builder series. Same internals, they are typically just a different color. Both are great.

The kind I can't stand are Yorks. My buddy had a 5 ton York installed and it has been one failure after another and is the biggest pain in the butt to work on. I am so glad I dont do that kind of work anymore.
