A case for Joey Porter ( If for no other reason )

At the end of last season many of us, including myself, were skeptical of a few things regarding our defense. 1 - our defense had no identity. Whether this was because of scheme or personel it was evident that there was no identity. 2 - It was clear there was no leader of the pack. Many of us thought it was The James Gang. Other thought Roy Williams was the face of our defense and towards the end of the season Tnew starting being a vocal leader. If for no other reason Joey Porter would bring the 2 pieces that our defense is missing the most - a fierce pass rusher and a leader with some emotion on the field. Someone that will bring intensity and leadership week in and week out and provide us with an added identity that will match what Wade Phillips has to offer. Count me in for these 2 reasons as to why Joey Porter should be a Dallas Cowboy!

I wont complain if we sign the guy, but he is not the same player he was even two seasons ago...he is clearly on the downside

the emotion thing, I get that and would like to see our guys play with more fire and intensity and there is definitely an argument to be made for adding guys that do that...

I don't think they'll persue Porter really, because of the knee injuries issue and the steroid allegations...

We haven't had that since Darren Woodson retired. I do think Kevin Burnett an bring some of that kind of passion. It was a big reason why I was so excited when we drafted him. This is his chance to shine.

Porter's Intensity and Passion alone would be enough for me.

Too many nice guys with low profile's on this Defense. Nobody wants to be vocal and they act like they are sacred to be. Roy should be , but its not his personailty. Demarcus too. Bobby was at OSU but give him time and he might come around. Bradie is supposed to be, but I only see it on a big stop. His emotion comes and goes.

I want to see Porter call Winslow and Stevens soft right before a game and have his defense back him up.

I would love to his 'boot' dance with a star on his helmet.

When healthy hes dominant but...........man he was hurt alot last year. Too much of a gamble IMO. However the main point of this thread was accurate. We don't have a REAL on field leader on 'D'. Good talent-no leaders.

the last 6 years as starters

Adalius has averaged 6.4 sacks a year

Joey has averaged 7.9, so 8 sacks a year

both are the same age, and Joey has only 2 more year of tread on his tires, as he came in the league and started as a rookie in '99, while Adalius didn't see significant playing time until '01, his 2nd year, he was a '00 draft pick

and Joey's best season was only 2 years ago, '05

Adalius wasn't a full time starter until 2004, so comparing stats before then is useless.

Kind of how I feel.

I think our defense would finally get a real personality.

But his physical would be key. Can his knees hold up? If it all checks out, I'd sign him.

Perhaps a Porter signing could end up like SEA's signing of Julian Peterson last year. Supposedly washed up and coming off injuries in '05, he ended up having the best season of his career.

A couple of them did:

- Chad Brown averaged 7.1 sacks in the subsequent 6 seasons after leaving the Steelers.

- Kevin Greene averaged 13 sacks in the 4 seasons following his departure from PIT.

Dallas is showing Columbo money he wants more. In the meantime they are still talking which may indicate that no one else is offering the money Columbo wants.

I just heard on a sportscenter update from 103.3 espn that "the Jerry Porter sweepstakes are heating up with interest from the Dolphins, Cowboys" and they also menchined a couple other teams....but i couldnt remember which teams they were. This is the first time i have heard that we were interested in Porter from the media......i may be way behind but i thought i would share.
What do you guys think are chances are of signing him....is it likely?

Sorry if repost

the guy is done...just like Rivera was done...sorta like something that is dead that still twitches because it doesn't know its dead...

Might as well let Bledsoe play the spot you would give Porter atleast Bledsoe attracts a crowd and seems to cause turnovers;)
