At one time there was a situation where rookies did not get as much playing time. Well by rooks I don't mean the number one, first round picks but others below them.

The team seemed to be afraid (and sometimes with good reason) of the rookies getting any time on the field other that Special Teams or if a vet starter had to go out for injuries.

Now it seems we see some of these rookies getting playing time on occasion with the starters. We see Terrance Williams getting some time and I don't think that would have happened a couple of years ago. Although I did see a blurb where Harris might get some more time after Williams had some screwups (as most rookie WRs will do).

Just notice one of those things that has changed under Garrett.

This is not a good or bad thing, not a give credit or don't give.

just an observation

Good thread. Actually, I do think it's a good thing. It's the best way to avoid a complete rebuild and also manage the cap. The less expensive vets you hold on to the better.

Plus you avoid the situation where you have a better player sitting on the bench but you're afraid to play him because he's a rookie. The best players play.

I think when 2/3 of the team are 1st/2nd/3rd yr players, you kinda have to play them. The Cowboys have been too slow in the past about getting the young players on the field.

The shift to getting young players on the field more is a good one. And not just as backups to give starters a break. If the guy can play, they're find a role for him. Much less of an impact if a player goes down with an injury.

Might be splitting hairs a bit, but I think Escobar needs to be more involved in the pass game.

JG is still clearly stuck in his shotgun 3WR set, and it wasnt really working Sunday.

The great Bill Callahan is calling plays now.

Unless you believe Garrett didn't let him put in much 12 in last week's game plan.

That would be my thought, yea.

And Im of the belief that calling plays is going to be collaborative, Im sure JG was on his headset with some input. I think that is more likely than JG and BC calling plays the exact same way.

You do realize that we were in 12 or 13 base on 41 of 75 plays, right? Man, those facts are tricky things.

If I remember correctly this was a point of emphasis from Stephen jones last year in the middle of the season, he wanted younger players on the field playing.

Maybe some day you'll start looking at the players on the field.

Ok, and the other 34 were what...11? Thats still way too much, imo, especially when we were playing with the lead the majority of the game.

But, tbh, that isn't really my gripe. The point was that it didnt seem like there was any effort to do anything creative with Esco, or even Hanna. It looked like the same old offense for the most part.

Rooks playing time seem decrease with BP's arrival and I always hated that. Glad to see them getting a chance to play and get their feet wet. In todays NFL you don't have time to let them sit.

We used a number of different things.

The biggest one to me was running the hurry up with two or three tight ends on the field and then splitting Escobar, witten outside.

Twice they had Escobar wide and the giants matched up with a safety, on the right side we had Austin in the slot and Dez outside. Austin had a lb over him with rolle deep. Essentially forcing the giants to leave Dez alone or to allow Austin to run free across the middle.

I am sure that is where we are headed in dictating the game.

We also used a lot more trips packages with Dez alone on the other side.

We tried Phil costa at fullback, although never ran a play.

And the biggest Callahan influence I saw was the emphasis of throwing to the backs, when Dunbar is back it could be huge.

I bet this week the chiefs single up dez with smith and blitz with reckless abandon and that will create some big plays to Dez and to the backs, hopefully Dunbar.
