I'd agree with you but I just don't see us taking any marginal D-line players in free agency. We had a big need (starting caliber edge rusher) that we filled, but I think we've been accumulating young prospects on the D-line for a few years and we'd rather give those guys the snaps instead of some washed veteran. That's why we haven't been bargain shopping for DL the way we've been for LB. I see us sticking with what we've got and maybe adding a few in the draft.
As far as McClain goes, I've been advocating for us to resign him all off-season, but I'm starting to come around to the idea that he won't be back. I'm typically not one of these people who say "an athlete should be grateful that a team is willing to give him money." I think athletes have a rare ability and if people are willing to make these guys rich then they deserve every last penny they earn. But I think a guy like McClain should be grateful to an organization like Dallas for staying by his side despite all the problems he's caused in the past. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that the cesspool of Oakland caused him to retire twice by the age of 25. But I'm really starting to think the guy may be too mentally unstable to trust. He seems to not realize that we're the only team willing to touch him with a ten foot pool. If he was smart, he'd take another one year deal, work his tail off, prove everyone wrong, and try to earn one of those big massive contracts from some team before his career is over (sort of like what Hardy is doing). I really don't know what's going through his head and I'm starting to question if it's even worth it.
