Highly unlikely to happen but just a hypothetical....

What if somehow Manziel, Donald and Barr all slid to 16....what does Jerrah do??

Won't happen so the point is moot.

All 3 will likely be gone.

Let's say Jerry does not want Manziel and it is all a smoke screen or everyone else convinces him to pass.

That brings it to Barr and Donald.

I would imagine that even though Donald is the sure thing between the two they may wind up going with Barr for a number of reasons.

1. They got a Melton on the team now for the 3 Tech and could possibly get another 3 tech later in the draft.
2. They don't feel like they have a Top DE on the team right now (Spencer is still hobbled and Selive is not going to be a top end DE)
3. They might feel they can not get another DE later in the draft with the same natural ability as Barr and who has a ceiling they feel is high as Barr.

you try to trade back a few spots if possible in that scenario, looking at the needs of other teams in the 16 to 20 range first - you would want to make sure your first rounder is a winner for you...but, realistically, I would take Donald in that scenario unless someone bowled me over with an offer. The problem with trading down is that someone likely trades up to get Manziel, and the Ravens wet themselves in taking Donald, leaving only Barr as a possibility of the 3 if your trade back

Trade back

The smart move would be to trade back a couple slots and hope one of the three is still there.

But Jerry doesnt always do the smart thing. He would take Manzeil ay 16 and strut like a peacock.

I would just take Donald at 16 personally.

A few years ago Jerry did the smart thing and traded down only to see the players come off the board. Guess it depends on different things.

With our luck, we trade back to #19 and pick up an extra 4th. Donald goes at #16 to the whoever traded with us, Barr goes at #17, Manziel goes at #18. We take Ealy at #19. Then the guy we draft with the extra 4th gets cut during training camp.

If the Cowboys took Ealy at #19, I'd break something.

Order of my preference

  1. Donald
  2. Barr or other..don't know else is there
  3. Trade down or other
  4. Manziel or other
As for Jerry...the team has a board they plan to by that was put together by scouts with guidance from coaches on specs.
Jerry is the tie-breaker if players are rated about the same on the teams board (not Jerry's personal board).

What we really need is a defensive playmaker with that first pick. That's either Donald or Barr for us in this draft, or we're trying to trade down. If they're both there, I'll take Donald. But I think it'll be Barr or nobody who's probably there. If it's nobody, get me down to the mid-20s and take one of the DEs and hope a player you love is sitting there in the 2nd.

The honest to god truth is, all three of those players would have a significant impact on this team and all three would absolutely be a tremendous value at that point. I would hate the Manziel pick, but if they think he is an elite player and the top player left on their board, you take him and reap the benefits in a year or two. Donald and Barr would be absolute no brainers. You don't trade back when three elite players fall in your lap, if for some reason you do, you only go back 1-2 spots.

You guys are giving me nightmares about the Stephen Jackson trade back.

JFB would be the pick. We are talking about Jerry here, with visions of $$$$$ in his head.
