This is definitely not what Dallas would do.......but I would.

19: R1P19 DL VITA VEA WASHINGTON
50: R2P18 LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH BOISE STATE
81: R3P17 DL TIM SETTLE VIRGINIA TECH
116: R4P16 S KYZIR WHITE WEST VIRGINIA
137: R4P37 LB GENARD AVERY MEMPHIS
171: R5P34 LB JOSEY JEWELL IOWA

Middle of the defense is solidified. Couldn't get Harrison Phillips or I would have taken him instead of Kyzir.
Vea, Settle, Collins.......now you have some talent and beef in the middle.
LVE, Avery, Jewell -- now you have some LB's to develop with Smith. One bust or injury doesn't destroy the D.
And a S to develop as well who seems to be a thumper.

Thoughts..............

Love the top 3 players
Don’t think any will be there at those spots but I guess you never know
Really like settle but if you get Vea might need a guard there since we don’t have a real starting guard

Dallas brought in 2 FA that might be able to start, and Wynn - Hernandez were gone, so I am not sure you would be getting a starting guard anyway in the 3rd round. I thought Settle was the better bet.

Settle is a guy I really like
I don’t think vea falls to 19 and I’d love to add settle to the middle of the DLine
To me he may be second best one tech prospect because he is solid against the run and can pressure the passer

Collins, Vea, Settle would be a nice rotation inside with Crawford,Irving, Jones as Swiss army DL, and Tank, Taco as the starting DE's.
I would think that a DC would love to have to figure out how to get these guys in a rotation against the weak link on an OL. Heck even a lineup of Vea (LE), Irving (3T), Settle (1T), Jones (RE) would be pretty nasty. Maybe Tank, Collins, Vea, Crawford for a while. Tank, Vea, Settle, Irving.

I think I might even be able to generate some mismatches with that set of talent.

Dont like using the word, but I really HATE that silly draft software.
It should be outlawed in the CowboyZone

I rarely even see one remotely realistic mock from it, and yet people just keep posting them as if they are
Come on

As I ask every year about this time; could the CBZ please have one thread titled FirstDraft (or whatever that game is) Mocks?

They are a valuable learning tool and can be done realistically...if you use them right.

And although 9 times out of 10 a player will not be available to us in the first or second or third round...I remind people that there is always the occasional time when players fall.

For example...

Stephen Jackson RB was NEVER going to fall to the Cowboys so everybody should just quit mocking him to us or projecting him to the Cowboys...until he did fall to the cowboys and we passed on him.

Shariff Floyd was never going to fall to us....until he did and we traded down essentially passing on him.

Jason Witten was never going to fall to the Cowboys in the second or third round, after we passed he would never fall to our second round pick and after he did and we passed on him there was no way he would be availble to us in the third round. But never mind any possible mock draft prior to that draft where we took him in the second or third draft.

When some people mocked us taking Xavier Woods in the later round they were told...he will never fall that far...until he did fall to the 6th round.

Those are just four examples of players that the Cowboys were never going to be able to draft at certain spots because it was never a realistic chance they would fall to those spots...but they did fall.

Also If someone takes the time to really work with the Mock Drafts on Fan speak...it can help them really find out more about player taken in the later rounds. They can look up various players to see the scouting reports or tape to try and make sure they take a good player instead of just taking whoever that big board on the site says is the top rated player available.

So although some on here might get irked about these mock drafts from specific sites...and even if some see really unrealistic....it does not mean they are worthless.

They could do one of the following...

1. Make you curious about a few players you might not know so you go and do some homework on them and educate yourself on those players.
2. Make you realize that not every pick that seems unrealistic is unrealistic and the history of the Cowboys Draft over the decade proves that.
3. Sometimes they can just be a good waste of a few minutes while passing the time until the draft.

Here is how to make drafting those players possible:

Trade 2019 and 2020 first round picks + other stuff for 2018 #12 overall.

12: R1P19 DL VITA VEA WASHINGTON
19: R2P18 LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH BOISE STATE
50: R3P17 DL TIM SETTLE VIRGINIA TECH
81: R4P16 S KYZIR WHITE WEST VIRGINIA

I think Dallas would certainly take those first four guys if they were available at those pics. Unfortunately I don’t think any will be there.
