Just thought I would open up a thread for A Dance with Dragons for people to discuss the book.

Soooooo....Jon Snow....

Dead?

We discussed this a little in the Game of Thrones thread, but still a worthy discussion.

Also, the letter from Bolton saying that Stannis' forces were defeated. I'm pretty sure that's a lie, but if any author were to completely destroy an entire group of decently major characters, it'd be GRRM.

There is No way Jon Snow is dead. His last POV chapter was similar to Brienne's last chapter in Feast, which we know she is still alive.

I agree, Stannis has not been defeated, Ramsay Bolton mixed in truths with half truths.

Typing on iPad so please forgive typos.

Oh, it was funny to see Ramsay Bolton call Jon a bastid so many times when he is one himself.

Like the last thread I could come post my reasons why he's certainly not dead, but i'll just post this instead as it pretty much clears all of this up.

Entertainment Weekly had an interview with George. Here is one segment.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So why did you kill Jon Snow?
GEORGE R.R. MARTIN: Oh, you think he’s dead, do you?

:)

I think it'd be more fun to discuss how we think he's going to come back =p

And yeah I don't think Ramsay has Stannis, but he certainly has Mance.

I'm really interested to see what happens with Jon, but I'm also very interested in Arya and Rickon. Arya is shaping up to be a major character in either The Winds Of Winter or A Dream of Spring. Rickon wasn't even mentioned in DWD, and I think he'll be significant in the next two books.

Great book. I wanted to just keep reading. Hopefully, he can get the next one out sooner.

I don't think Snow is dead. Someone in the other thread mentioned the whole chapter devoted to the wildling warg and talk of the true death.

I don't think Rickon is ever going to be a major character. Or if he is, it'll just be as some figure head. Davos is heading to get him now. Gotta remember, the Kid is like 5 or 6. Not much he's going to contribute other then his name as a Staark =p

I'm wondering if Bran is ever going to leave the north at this point.

Mainly I just want to find out that Lyanna Staark + Rhaegar Targaryen = Jon Snow.

And if the Young Griff is really Aegon, or if he's an impostor. There is mention of "The Mummer's Dragon", which I think could be linked to Aegon. If he's the real deal or not, I think it refers to Vary's Dragon, which would be Aegon imo.

Dany is the "Slayer of Lies" so wondering how that will play out.

There is a lot of the prophecy stuff I'm interested in, all the visions Dany saw in the tower of whatever in Clash of Kings.

Martin has said in interviews that he wants to have his next 2 books done within 6 years, to keep pace with the Television show. So here's to hoping that holds true.
