Think about it. Spencer is on a 1 year deal.

Cooper and Warmack will most likely be off the board & Vaccaro has jag written all over him.

I wouldn't be shocked if we trade back & it's for a DE to replace Spencer after this year.

I suppose the good news for this time of year is that there aren't too many positions where someone could say "they don't need that". I would say Corner, QB and perhaps LB would be the only only positions that they should simply stay away from in the first three rounds.

IMO, this should be their view for round 1-3:
D-line, Safety, O-line = Pick the best player on your board.
WR, TE, RB = If one of these is at the top of the board and they are light years better than the first group on your board (a player free falls), stop their fall and pick them.

This would SUCK so bad considering how many quality DE's were available in FA this year (for cheap).

Yes, the Cowboys have more options at DT than at DE.

Who is Ware's backup?

Doesn't matter who. You don't draft his backup at 18

I'm referring more to the title of the post than the specifics. Ideally, a first round DE could play either the weak-side (Ware's position) or the strong-side.

Strong-Side only DE are normally not 1st round picks.

That is a really good reason to draft a defensive tackle. The best one on the market was Desmond Bryant and got 35 million and he is a bit of a project compared to the good defensive ends that were $5 million to $7 million per year on no risk short term deals.

Multiple very good to great guards and tackles were bought and sold for $6 to $8 million per year. Damn good 2 year answers like Winston, Clabo and Moore are all out there for less than $4 million.

There were zero defensive tackles with big time pass rush skills.

I think Werner will be there. I've thought for awhile now he will be on our list of guys to look at.

Picking a DE is exactly what the good teams would do in that situation. The Giants had Osi, Tuck, and Kiwi. So, they pick JPP. In this new scheme, YOU CAN'T HAVE ENOUGH PASS RUSHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's the only DE I would even consider at 18. And that would be in a last resort scenario if 4 or 5 other guys are gone and we don't have a trade down partner.

There is some really good talent at DE in rounds 2 thru 4 if we really wanted to go that route. Okafor, Kruger, Washington, Gholston, Edwards, Taylor, or Buchanan would all look very good as strong side, with the exception of Buchanan who would make a good pass rushing specialist.

Follow he dollars, they dont want to pay him that much, moving him might be the best option.

Exactly but another plan has to be in place first.

Unless they plan on trading for a veteran than it will have to be a draft pick.
