Would you rather have :

1. Zack and Demarcus.

or

2. Zack, Jernigan who was available at our original second round spot
and a player that was available at our third round spot ?

Your choice, and, if option 2 , which player that was available ?

Zack and Demarcus. I don't see why people are mad about the trade. It's almost the same as last year when we got Fred.

Last year, we went in knowing we needed interior OL. We had our sights set on Warmack and Cooper, but when they were gone, we were dead set on Fred. We knew we could trade back and get him, so we did. And it worked out beautifully.

This year, we went in knowing we needed RDE. We would've loved Clowney or Mack, but really had our sights set on Barr. When he was off the board, we were dead set on Demarcus. However, instead of trading back in the 1st like last year, we decided to take Martin because he was too good to pass up. So we traded up in the 2nd instead of trading back in the 1st.

Sure, it would've been better to not have given up our 3rd, but Atlanta was offering a 4th and a much higher 2nd for the same guy, so we needed to give up a 3rd.

Think of it this way, if Martin was off the board, we would've only had Demarcus and not both. I'm much happier coming out of the draft with two 1st rounders in the first 3 rounds.

hindsight is well…ya know…
but I would've much preferred Crichton in the 2nd and KEPT our 3rd rounder and gotten Trai Turner or Gabe Jackson and had ourselves a dominating OL for many years to come.

The problem with these hypotheticals is that you have to subscribe to the fallacy of the predetermined outcome. There's nothing to say how the draft works out if the Cowboys didn't trade up.

That being said, I would rather have the second and third, and I am a fan of picking Lawrence (like the player(.

I'm going with Zack and Demarcus. Hate losing the 3rd, but after hearing how Marinelli and JG said that the key to his defense was the 3T and the RDE and how Clowney, Mack, barr, Lawrence were the one's that could make it work. Gotta go with coach Rod's experience.

Very solid draft overall.

Martin Lawrence or Will Smith, just kidding

Maybe Dee Ford, Tim Jernigan and Trai Turner, but if Martin is better than Turner and Lawrence is better than Ford, then it's really about if Jernigan is that much better than Bishop. I think I will stay with Martin and Lawrence.

Jerry flat out said it in his presser.................we were desperate and were forced to overpay...............He was the only WDE left that fit our scheme and Atlanta was fixing to take him.

It is what it is.

I don't mind Marin and Lawrence, they could turn out to be two quality starters which by itself is pretty good for a draft. And if we get a third starter from all the rest of the picks that's outstanding. But just for the sake of argument, I was more intrigued by the trade down on day one with Cleveland. It sounds like they spent the time setting it up in advance and Cleveland welched on it. Teams don't seem to be respecting us much in these trades. Even with Cleveland's third instead of a second, we could have had our RDE Lawrence in round one and another pick in this deep draft. Martin looks like a really solid pick but you could have gotten the next best rated guard and gotten another pick. In that case it could have been:

round 1 Lawrence
round 2 Jernigan or Ealy whichever they prefered
round 3 (from browns) Kirksey (the Iowa linebacker I liked) or Chichton
round 3 Terrance Brooks FS or Gabe Jackson OG or Will Sutton DT or Louis Nix or Kareem Martin DE or Khyri Thornton DT or Trai Turner OG
