A few thoughts

I think the Cowboys need to get away from Marion Barber early in drives. Especially when we are on our side of the 50.

Once we cross the 50 yard line and into the opponents territory he becomes a more valuable player to us. Before that though I think he have better options.


I may be alone on this one but I think Roy Williams is going to have a really nice year for us this year.

The miscommunications are annoying but this guy is a load to bring down once he gets the ball. He will also see a lot of single coverage this year too and is tough for any corner to tackle.

He physically looks much better too.



Our offensive line, especially Gurode and Davis, need to play with their heads up. They get locked into the opponent they are helping with and lose all awareness and guys just come through clean.


I also thought it was interesting to hear Schaub talk about how they went out and executed their gameplan.

When we were running the ball they knew it. You could see it in their body language pre-snap.

I imagine had we gameplanned a little more we could've toasted them with playaction (given Romo has time to get rid of it).



But yeah... I vote no more Barber until we cross the 50 yard line.

I do think Roy has looked better this preseason. Last night was about as good as I can remember him playing in a Cowboys uniform.

Like it was posted elsewhere, it's as if this offensive line never saw a stunt before. And it wasn't the new guys that were having the issues. That's the problem.

Boy, it does take Barber a while to get up to steam... that's a problem.

I think it was theebs who started a caution thread before the game. He mentioned that this game could get ugly. The Texans were going to treat this game like it was their mini Super Bowl. The Texans are tired of being overlooked and wanted to put a show on for their fans. That they did.

The Texans definitely game planned for a win. That was noticeable when Matt Schaub motioned everyone out of the backfield and took a QB sneak for a 1st down. All those lovely crossing routes by the Texan wideouts. All those lovely stunts by their defense.

The Cowboys were whipped from beginning to end. Believe me, I was pissed. But I'm not going to put stock in the preseason. It's pointless. Just get out with minimal injuries is all you can hope for.

I will tell you this much. The Cowboys should be pissed off after that showing. From the GM/Owner down to the water boy.

Believe me, I don't get that worked up over preseason.

But the offensive line was screwing things up in pass protection that they should be able to do in their sleep.


Im not as worried about the run blocking RIGHT NOW because in the regular season we will do some things to get 8 guys out of the box when we are in run formations.


I hate how our O-line looks right now & I hate how Romo is so off when he throws it to Roy. You can't blame it 100% on Roy anymore based on what we have seen this Pre-season.

is this last year? the numbers total 238 carries 980 yards but in 2009 he actually had 214 carries and 932 yards . plus it makes some sense that his YPC drops on the opponents espicially inside the 20 .

Felix's 5.6 to Barber's 4.7 on carries on Dallas' side of the field is surprisingly close, given how much Felix sees his average juiced by long runs. I don't see a problem with the way they're used, except that I would spread the short-yardage carries more evenly between the two, and I'd have both of them on the field together more often--especially in short yardage.

i'm going to get pissed and fight back. the cowboys don't seem to have that attitude under mr. softie.

I thought I had added some numbers in twice, but I didn't.

edit: You're right. I added the "inside the 10" numbers to the "inside the 20" numbers for both backs.

I just think earlier in drives you're always looking for that spark to get you going and Barber doesn't provide that spark.

Once things are going and momentum has shifted are way then Barber can come in and give that knockout blow.

i think we should have done this last season but we never pulled the trigger(we even played on with a gimpy Mb3 as a starter).that tells me that it will be business as usual(a lot of 3rd and longs) with mb3 as the rb.

Barber's dreads might be the problem.
Instead of focusing on game day, he is taking 2 hours to get them dreads prepared.
My dreads just take 15 minutes.
