Don't know if this has been posted, but next Tuesday on NFL Network, A Football Life will document the 90s O-Line and talk about the dominance they displayed but how a lot of them (mainly E Williams, Newton, Tuinei) got caught up in the off the field issues that surrounded the organization. It looks to be an interesting watch for next week. Keep a heads up!

If there was any group that applied that stupid "YOLO" philosophy kids are living by these days it was the Cowboys o-line of the 90s. Even Stepnoski, the cleanest of the bunch, was a spokesperson for legalizing weed.

That offensive line was overrated. Emmitt smith MADE that off line what they were. Before Emmett they were a bunch of castaways and low round draft picks from nowhere.

Nate Newton said something like, "We were the worst O-line in the NFL, then we got Emmitt and now we're goin' to Pro Bowls!"

Tui and Gesek may have been overrated but Newton, Step, and Williams were definitely excellent players at their respective positions.

That's how you build a winning football team.

That o line was overrated? What? ! Players developed slower back then possibly they were just coming to their own when Emmit arrived but everytime I see a game from the 90s my first thought is omg that oline abused opponents badly. ..

Newton was cut by the Commanders and retreated to the USFL. after it folded he was picked up by Dallas as a reserve. His career was a complete bust until the arrival of Emmitt Smith

Wasn't Tuinei a defensive linemen at first?

I agree.. Many think "anyone" could run behind those O-lines. I call BS. Emmitt Smith made those O-lines just as much as The O-lines made Emmitt.

I mean overrated in the sense that emmitt made them look a lot better than they actually were.

Emmitt missed 3 meaningful games in his career. They all came in the 1993 season. Dallas lost all three. The first two games he missed because of his contract hold out. His replacements we're Derrick Lassic who had 16 carries for 75 yds vs Washington. Lassic vs the bills 19 carries for 52 yds. Derrick Gainer had 4 carries for 19 yds. Emmitt missed vs the falcons due to injury and had 1 carry. Lassic came in and had 9 carries for 36 yds.

Also Dallas was crushed by Washington and atlanta. Lost to bills by 3 pts

Newton was an over weight kid from an unknown college (Florida A&M) who had to learn how to become a professional. His development coincided with the arrival of Emmitt Smith: a fortuitous event.

It's not that uncommon for a talented o-lineman to take time to develop into something great, just ask former Cowboys Brian Waters or Ron Stone.

Would have loved to have seen E Williams reaction to the Giants pre game shenanigans last week.

What? Erik Williams and Larry Allen say hello.

That o line routinely abused good defensive players.

Agree. The oline was the best unit to ever play the game. They were bigger, stronger and had an attitude. They are the reason why I prefer the huge, mauling linemen that takes over games by wearing the defense down. That line would be even better if it faced the subpar dlinemen that are fielded today.

The icing on the cake was how much they frustrated the likes of Reggie White, who was arguably the leagues best pass rusher at that time. Reggie was so frustrated at the end of the 1995 NFC Champ Game, that he was about to take it out on a Fox cameraman.
